Garmin Rino 120 2-Mile 22-Channel FRS/GMRS Two-Way Radio and GPS Navigator (Discontinued by Manufacturer)

I have nothing but great things about the Garmin RINO 120. The Navigation is good to go. Some people complain about how much more work it is compared to a dedicated GPS model. Well, when you have to combine the radio and the GPS, there is bound to be some compromise somewhere. The radio feature is great. I got scambling security function, different beeps and tones for different parties, and the GPS location works with the radio.My negative opinions is about the computer to unit cord.. It is a old style nine pin serial port, but the more expensive model have the USB to unit cord. Can't they just update the lineup so all of us have the newer connection. Another issue is the software.. All the new maps are not compatible with the RINO 120, but it is compatible with the new RINO 520. Yes, I know they still sell the software that is compatible with the RINO 120, but it isn't updated since 2000, and I would hate to find out the road is no longer there... That kind of thing...So overall, it is a good product, just that it needs some updating...

This item works great for the outdoors but drains the batteries pretty quick. That is my only complain.

This is my 2nd garmin product, GPS V Deluxe being the first. I admit when I first purchased this product, I had mixed feelings. There were problems with the microphone clarity as compaired to motorola's frs group. However, one thing with Garmin is that they are always working on their products, [...] updated software for you to download and update your units. Location and map detail on this unit matches that found in the GPS V, right down to the on screen options. My two complaints: 1)Batterious Carniverous... ie Eats Batteries, prefers AAs. 2)I have a bike mount for this unit, and when subject to vibrations, it sometimes shuts itself off. This has become a geocacher's friend, more so if you have more then 1 person you go caching with.

The Rino 120 allows you, at an affordable price to know where you are in the world, where your buddies are as well and to have on-going conversation. The unit performs as advertised. I used the Rino on a game bird hunt in rugged eastern Oregon. Our party was at times a couple miles apart and separated by some deep ravines and high ridges. Sound transmission was great. Battery life seems good. The only thing to remember is to check in at intervals so that your location will continue to update on the map. The perfect tool to stay in contact and stay safe.

Great product

The 120 has all the features I want, except that the screen is nearly impossible to read for a far-sighted old guy. I can see why Garmin upgraded it on later models. For the price, though, I'm satisfied with it. I just have to remember to carry reading glasses...

I bought this item for my brother, who lives in the Rockies and does quite a bit of hunting, fishing and four-wheeling in the woods. He told me that this little gem has probably saved his life at least twice since he's gotten it. He's gotten lost in the forest a few times and has used the unit to get his maps to decipher his location, plus call our other brother to get his location after getting separated. What more can you say about an item than it can actually SAVE LIVES! ;-) Most impressive little gadget.
