Mobil 1 M1C-251 Extended Performance Oil Filter (Pack of 2)

2012 Toyota Highlander 3.5 v6. Filter is very well made and is one of only 3 choices with metal end caps. Amsoil and Royal Purple have metal end caps and fully synthetic media. Mobil 1 has a semi-synthetic media. Also Amsoil and Royal Purple are close to or over $20 each. Purolator Boss fileter is full synthetic and about $20. The end caps of this filter are plastic. Toyota sells a full synthetic oil filter with metal end caps for about $13 made for their TRD line of performance products. All of the rest of the oil filters for this application do not have end caps. The K&N filter used to have plastic end caps but they do not have end caps anymore.

I hate crawling under my cars to change oil. So I bought a Mityvac 7201 Fluid Evacuator Plus that allows me to remove the oil through the dip stick hole. I have posted a review for this device and it works great.But I still had to get under the cars to replace the oil filter. What a pain. And I don't trust oil change places to do a good job. I don't know if they really put the right oil in, or really replace the filter. Plus I have had a couple experiences with over fill and once they didn't put the dipstick back in the car.These filters are good for 15,000 miles. My cars call for 0W-20 Synthetic. Mobil doesn't make an extended 0W-20 synthetic oil, and theirs is the only oil I use. So, I replace the oil filter every other oil change. To verify that my oil is ok with changing the filter every other oil change, I sent samples to Blackstone labs. I sampled each vehicle twice to give myself confidence that replacing the filter every other oil change was safe. I also inspect the filter when I do change it to see if there is any physical damage. No problems. Remember, some oil is left in the system when you do not replace the filter, but this has not caused an issue in my vehicles.For my vehicles, the oil change light comes on at about 5,000 miles. So, I am running the filters for 10,000 miles. I may be able to go to 3 oil changes for each filter replacement, but not sure I want to risk it, although I think these filters would do fine.I recommend these filters if you are using extended service oil (and you change the oil accordingly) or if you do like I do and replace the filter every other time.

Superb engine wear protection great oil filter, looks exactly like the one in the picture. I got the Made in USA version, very sturdy and easy to install in my RAV4. Using this filter with an Extended Performance Mobile 1 oil, reduces my oil changes intervals to once a year, which is great for me as a time saving option and great for the environment as it reduces the amount of waste. I wouldn't buy this filter to use with any other oil as it is a pricier option comparing to regular Mobile1 filters which provide a better value over short term for less money if you plan to use cheaper oil.

I have used Mobil one oil filters for years and they have done an excellent job. This will be my first Mobil M1C-251 oil filter. I have used Mobil One motor oil since its' introduction several years ago and have had excellent results on all vehicles. Well worth the extra money. Actually the oil and filters are not as expensive as regular oil and filters because I change oil and filter at 18,000 mile intervals. I put 170,000 or so miles on a vehicle before I trade it.

I've been using this filter now for a few years. I've managed to do several oil changes now at extended intervals and these filters have held up during their use. When changing filters I always look for tears or ruptures along the media to see if anything failed during their usage. So far I haven't noticed anything that indicated these filters weren't doing their job. I recently had some work done on my vehicle and the mechanic commented on how clean the inside of the engine was. I haven't had an analysis done so I can't tell you the specifics of the filtration capability but I do value my mechanics observations.

Nothing like Mobil 1

My order arrived on August 2nd 2013 and the parts were the USA made variety. The end caps were metal and the drainer was threaded. Comparing these filters with FRAM Ultra's, Mobile 1 filter pleats do not have the sturdiness of the element that the FRAM filters have because FRAM incorporates a metal mesh inside their pleats. Unlike FRAM that states that their filters are good for 15,000 miles the Mobile ones only state that they have three times the holding capacity of the economy filters. If the economy filters are designed for 3000 miles then it stands to reason that this filter is only good for 9000 miles. I will update this analysis once I change out the filter after 9,000 miles.So I replaced the filter after ~10K miles and other than a slight tear in one of the pleats where it attaches to the end plate, all was good.I sure hope I get the USA version again the next time I order.
