Desert Survival Tips, Tricks & Skills Hardcover – September 16, 2003

This is a great book. I've taken several courses from Tony Nester. His knowledge and approach to teaching is amazing. If you ever get a chance to take one of his courses, you won't regret it. This book gives realistic knowledge that will help you should you ever find yourself in a bad situation in the desert.

I like Tony Nester's videos on YoutTube, so this was a natural purchase for me. His book is well thought out. I plan to finish reading it and put his ideas to test when I am out camping to get more familiar with them.

The deserts are a very different place. Preparedness and planning are the key to a good or better outcome. Practical ideas for person and vehicle check lists are most important. I worked in the high deserts of CA for 24 years, 1990-2014, as a field inspector. Out vehicles were not equipped nor were we trained except by casual conversation with our fellows. Yes we hade a rudimentary daily destination plan/schedule but who in the office was watching? Many areas were out of radio and later cell phone contact.

I live in Arizona, so have occasion to go into the desert a lot, this is a great book for helping you to survive in the desert should you break down in your vehicle or get lost.

A cursory examination of requirements for survival in a desert in 70 pages with, not surprisingly, an emphasis on water and water requirements. Excellent advice concerning identifying consumable water sources and purification methods. Survival means staying alive and water bourn illness can be cured while there is no cure for death from dehydration. Essential survival kit is listed along with fire making preparation which grapples with the overall theme of this book which is to be prepared through proper knowledge and planning.

Excellent advice for anyone who ventures out into and thru the desert. Very concise and entertaining to read. author is an experienced desert rat.
