Good game,
This game has taken a lot of my time, I passed my 10.000th duel lately, and i'm not even started to get bored yet! I would wish there were an AI vs AI system in this, like in the newer games. I you already have the Tag Force 1 for PSP, then you shouldn't buy this game. It is the same as this one.

Hungry to play Duel Monsters but have noone to play with? This is your partner!
It's been a while since I first watched the first part of the Yu-Gi-Oh series, and since I've started to watch it, it turned out to be quite frustrating wanting to play Duel Monsters but not being able to because:a) I didn't know of any place where the cards were sold in the first place;b) even if I knew, I wouldn't have anyone to play with.I've got a PSX, a PS2 and a PS3, and so far, there wasn't a single Yu-Gi-Oh game I would dare to buy 'cause all the previews and reviews that I read about in magazines, or that I watched on TV shows all pointed out that those games weren't exactly like playing Duel Monsters the way we see in the series. So, my hunger got supressed until a few months ago, when I came across this title: Yu-Gi-Oh GX: Tag Force Evolution. The first thing that catches your eye in the description of the game is that it says: Experience the Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG (Trading Card Game). And it's true!In this game you can play Duel Monsters exactly the way you saw it on the show. You start the game by entering an academy of Duelists and you (that is, yourself) are the main character, or you can give another name to your character if you like. The point is, you are part of one of the teams of Duel Academy (there are at least three), and then you meet the characters of the Anime. They are all there: Jaden Yuki, Syrus Truesdale, his older brother Zane, Chumley Huffington, Alexis Rhodes, etc...You get to attend classes wich will teach you how the game is played, and you get to have your own deck.Of course, you won't get anywhere without a deck, so one will be given to you, and you start with low level monsters and trap/spell cards. As you begin to beat more and more opponents, you earn Duel Points (DP) and the more you get the better, for you can afford more cards to strenghten your deck. Cards aren't the only stuff you can buy, you can also buy sandwiches to offer to the people you meet and make friends, for example. There will be a time when you'll need to team up with someone in order to Tag Duel. This is interesting because you get to use the cards that your teammate has put on the field too, but you have to be extra careful because the computer isn't always following your strategy. This was the most frustrating in-game play so far: having the right set of cards in the field to beat your opponents and ending up defeated because your teammate didn't use your cards as you were intending to use. Either way, this is a well set up game, and trust me on this one: it's very, very, very, very long. I haven't even come across the second part of the game, and it hast three parts... But I haven't been playing it much lately because my PS2 is out of order, and I have to buy a new one, and I've also been having college exams/evaluations... Anyhow, even if you play all day long, it will take you at least 5 days to beat the first part of the game and having done something good out of it, maybe even more than that. The Duel Academy is divided in several areas and you navigate from an area to another through a map, in a similar way of the Desktop of your computer and your mouse. Then, once you pick an area, you get to move arround with your character inside it and talk to people, make duels, and even tame Pharaoh, the cat. The graphics in this point aren't anything special, it almost seems like you are playing Pokemon on a Game Boy Advance, but even so, they are cute, every major character is very easily recognizable. The graphics during Duels get better. The characters have cell shading effects, so that it makes you feel like you are watching a real anime... The negative of the entire game, and most disapointing part is that there are no voices, and it's rare to see a monster attack like in the show, it's usually just an arrangement of pretty arrows indicating which monster attacked which. The music is also very repetitive.Nonetheless, it makes up for those who are looking for a Duel Monsters experience and haven't found out a partner to play with, or simply those who love playing the Trading Card Game all the time but want a new challenge to fire up their passion for the game. So, at a glance,From 0 to 100:- Graphics - 70 - We've seen the PS2 offering much more, but still these are cute and funny graphics, with nice Cell shading effects.- Soundtrack - 50 - The biggest dissapointment in the entire game. No voices, repetitive music... It's worth for the sound effects employed that are the same for when a monster is destroyed during duels in the show.Gameplay - 98 - This is an easy game to pick up and play. And it let's you get the feel of what the TCG represents. It is a real TCG played in a digital world. Very nicely done! It's not just having strong cards, it's having the right cards and the right strategy. This is the most insteresting asset of the game, and it is outstanding!Longevity - 200 - Yeah, you saw it well: two hundred. It's the longest game I've ever played, it's totally off the charts... I bet you need at least three and a half weeks playing 24/7 to finish the game, and having done actually something good in it. But of course, this can only count for the overall as 100.Overall - 80% - If you are a fan of the series or simply a fan of the Trading Card Game, you won't get dissapointed for the investment.NAGG, Portugal
