Elegant Knotted Jewelry: Techniques and Projects Using Maedeup

Elegant and Informative
I am a glass sculpture artist and not a jewelry artist but the piece that Becky created with my Cherry Blossoms lured me to explore Maedeup. The book not only is beautifully photographed with a history on this technique and Korea but the instructions and projects are easy to follow and create. This techinque brings such an elegant quality to a finished piece of jewelry that it has inspired my own work. The tools needed are simple and easy to find if not already in your toolbox and the Korean cording is available through Satincording with great service and fast shipping.Becky deserves kudos for bringing this technique to the jewelry world in such a beautiful book of fantastic eye candy and projects.Barbara

Elegant Knotted Jewelry by Becky Meverden
I purchased "Elegant Knotted Jewelry" by Becky Meverden allow me to learn this artform and to produce some of these designs for myself. This book provides some good design instruction, and pertinent information for materials and conversions. I like this Kindle book, and hope in the future the graphs and drawing will turn out clearer when enlarged. Ms. Meverden gives good step by step instruction in making the projects easy to follow. Good Pictures and explanations. So far, she does it much better than I do. I recommend this for beginners to gain the skills to perform making knotted jewelery. Worth the price paid.

Nice book
This book is good for beginner knotters (explained well) but do not expect to learn anything more than the basic knots. Lots of projects (jewelery) and some good recommendations on the tools and findings that work well with Korean cording projects. Gives you some good ideas but the projects are a little repetitive and use the same knots throughout. Friendly and amical content.

Excellent Projects!
I was looking for jewelry designs using cording and beads. I had not tried any techniques using these jewelry elements but was really drawn to the simplistic, elegant look of the art. I originally chose "Elegant Knotted Jewelry: Techniques and Projects Using Maedeup" by Becky Maverden based on the beautifully photographed projects that she had created and the step by step directions and tips to execute the intricate knotted jewelry. However, I thoroughly enjoyed her delightful and informative commentary on each knot's name and origin and her experiences in Korea. I would recommend this book to anyone interested in knotted jewelry.

Not for new knotters
This book was a bit beyond my skills though I have worked with macrame a long time. It is a Korean form of knotting, I would not recommend it for someone who wants to begin SIMPLE jewelry designs coming from plant hangers, hammocks, etc. The knots can be mastered with considerable practice and patience though some of the photos are not clear for placing the cord over or under another one.Definately not a book for beginners or returning knotters.

Elegant Knotted Jewelry
This is not macrame! This is wonderful traditional Korean knots that make up into beautiful jewelery. Looks like quite a challenge, and Becky even says so. But she assures you that once you start you will get the hang of it and be smitten with the wonderful projects you can make.

Meh
The directions were a bit hard to follow. There are more helpful YouTube videos and websites out there. Better yet, check with your local library or cultural center for Korean artisans that teach this traditional craft.

Maedup
I saw the author of this book on a recent TV show giving a very short demonstration on a madeup bracelet. She also showcased many of the items found in her book. I was fascinated and decided to get her book. The book arrived in great condition. It contains lovely photographs and clear instructions. I am anxious to begin my attempts at this ancient craft.

Nice designs
Nice designs, and an interesting take on the korean style of knot work. I found the tying photographs not always easy to follow as they're mostly tied in hand, once mastered however doing it this way is faster and easier. Those who know knots will recognise most of these knots under other names, although they're put together here with style - one of the finest examples being the three character knot necklace shown on the cover. Chinese Knots for Beaded Jewellery has several of the same basic knots and may be an easier place to start knotting for the beginner.
