Gardner Bender GSW-62 Electrical Rotary Switch, DP3T, OFF-ON(P)-ON(N)-ON(N+P), 6 A/125V AC, 6 inch Wire Terminal, Brass

I've used two of these rotary switches on lamps with three bulbs. The switch allows turning on one, two or all three bulbs at once. There's no secret to wiring it up if you have even a little familiarity with electricity. Black is 120VAC source. Red goes to bulb 1, Blue goes to bulbs 2 and 3. Switch starts at off, next click powers Red wire, next click powers Blue wire, next click powers both Red and Blue, next click goes back to off. Make sure to adjust the hex nut so that just the brass knob shows (and none of the plastic core). Remember that on lamp wire (aka zipcord), the hot side has the smooth edge and the neutral has the textured edge. Hot side of the plug is the thinnest of the two blades. If you wire it backwards you risk giving someone a shock (perhaps even you). One thing to be aware of is that this switch is rather tall, so if you have limited room, it might not fit depending on just where the hole is.

The media could not be loaded.  Had to re-wire my grandfather’s 2-bulb, 3 setting mid century lamp. It was a pain to get the hardware through the metal pole (just the nature of it), so i used long twisty-tied to feed it and pull it through. Wiring was simple once I googled instructions. Could have used instructions in package. I also had to go buy plastic electrical wire caps. Has a nice hand-feel when using it, and it was only $9, so I’m happy.

It fits, works, easy install

I thought I needed a new switch for a lamp purchased at Goodwill. Good value, however, I wasn't able to get the wires to stay together and the caps to stay on. After 3 or 4 tries, I was very frustrated. The caps would fall off, wires coming unwraped. I took it to my son, who was able to connect everything. I have wired many lamp switches, but they were the kind with a screw holding the wire. Bottom line, it's easy if you know how to do it, apparently, I didn't. Turns out, my problem was the new short, fat light bulb that wasn't going completely into the socket preventing connection.

Seems like a good quality switch. It feels very positive when turning it to each segment. Nothing cheap about it. I used it as a replacement in an old 1930's or 40's floor lamp. Great replacement!

Easy to install in a small space, works well and saved a beautiful lamp.Would be nice to get small, insulated wire connectors with it.

Actually my life stayed the same, the switch was completely inert. It did what is was supposed to with neither flare nor celebration.

It was a replacement for a switch that after decades had finally failed. The lamp returned to working as new.
