Possibly. We mounted it to a steel door and a wall.

Is it secure enough to use it to deposit money?

I use it as a deposit box in my store where the sales associates deposit their daily sales at the end of the day. They just put the money and the end of the day receipt in an envelope and deposit it in the box.
