Rodney Dangerfield gets no respect as a salesman seeking a promotion, so he decides to coach the company-sponsored girls' soccer team to impress his boss. Problem is, he knows nothing about the sport and his players are the most inept in the league, so he convinces his girlfriend's son to don a wig and join the squad. Review: Good movie - Good movie Review: Fun ‘90s Sports Comedy for Kids and Families - Ladybugs is a classic lighthearted comedy from the early ‘90s that’s perfect for a family movie night. Rodney Dangerfield delivers his signature humor, and the story about an underdog girls’ soccer team is surprisingly heartwarming and fun. The movie mixes slapstick comedy, sports action, and some sweet moments that make it entertaining for both kids and adults. The DVD quality is solid with clear picture and sound, making it easy to watch again and again. If you enjoy nostalgic ‘90s comedies or are looking for a funny, kid-friendly sports movie, Ladybugs is a great pick.

Rodney finally gets respect...on the soccer field!
This early 90's effort is arguably Rodney Dangerfield's last truly great comedy. He's in top form in this one as an engaged working class guy who agrees to coach the "Ladybugs" girls soccer team to finagle a promotion from his boss & better support his future wife (Ilene Graff). Soon, he discovers how deep over his head he's in---the team is a disaster. That is, until he convinces his teenage future son--who has natural skill as a player--to don drag as new member "Martha" & whip the team into shape. So it sort of functions as a "Tootsie" on a soccer field as both must keep up the charade in order to have a winning season & impress the boss with his coaching. Jackee Harry gives fine comic support as Rodney's sassy assistant, and even the late child actor Jonathan Brandis has some very good moments. Highlights: A scandalously hilarious bit in a girl's dressing room; Brandis frantically switching from boy clothes to drag (several times) when both his Mom and the girl on the team he likes are under the same roof; Rodney donning drag himself to rescue Brandis from a potentially disasterous "skinny dipping" session with the girls; Rodney rattling off some of his one-liners in traditional fashion; the soccer action sequences; Rodney finally standing up to his boss with the great line, "What good is it to be the best when it brings out the worst in you?"; and Rodney's unforgettable closing gag (I won't spoil it for you!). A fun & breezy comedy, "Ladybugs" definitely scores!

My favorite Rodney Dangerfield movie
Easily my all time favorite Rodney Dangerfield film. Dangerfield stars as Chester-a hardworking guy who's in a deep committed relationship with Bess (played by Ilene Graff). He's looking for a major promotion at work and hoping he can have a better life with Bess as a result of it. Well, he doesn't get the promotion he initially wanted but has another opportunity. His boss, Dave Mullen (played by Tom Parks) offers Chester a shot at coaching an all girls soccer team known as "The Ladybugs" which would certainly increase his chances. Aided by his best friend, Julie Benson (played by Jackee' Harry), they work together to form a winning dynasty with the girls. Unfortunately, they are completely horrible at soccer coaching and the girls start off terrible. That is until Bess's son, Matthew (played by the late Jonathan Brandis) is recruited by Chester to dress up as a girl to be apart of the team to help them win. Well, Martha (Matthew) reluctantly agrees and that's when the laughs really kick in! Whether it's Matthew trying to avoid going skinny dipping with the girls or Chester dressing up as a woman pretending to be Martha's mom coming to pick him up, it just goes to show it really doesn't pay to lie. All in all, Ladybugs is a classic 90's comedy from one of the greatest comedy legends of all time.

I thought this was a documentary on INSECTS!
I’m an 86 year old Entomologist and thought this movie was a documentary on the study of insects. But, to my surprise it wasn’t. I’m really not disappointed though because the movie actually let me see my other side. Usually I’m a very dull and quiet person and as an entomologist, people are always asking me about the history of words..................It really bugs me. But, after watching this movie I can really relate to it. The following quote from the movie describes my situation exactly! (Dangerfield plays Chester Lee) “- Bartender: You ought to get out there and start dating again. - Chester Lee: You go out there, what do you meet? You meet girls looking for husbands and husbands looking for girls. - Bartender: Well, you know what they say, there's plenty of fish in the sea if you got the right bait. - Chester Lee: Yeah. The trouble is, my hook ain't what it used to be.” I laughed so hard that I farted and at my age as they say “Never Trust a Fart”. Anyhow, after watching this movie I went to the bait shop and bought a can of worms, a Viagra candy bar and got directions on how to get back to my house. The movie? A+++++++
