Where is this made? It says the blades are made in Germany, but does not state where the rest is made. I want nothing made in China, Thanks.

Germany, metal and plastic. There is a silver plastic nameplate on the front of the V board stating made in Germany. All the attachments also state Germany and are in German. My research revealed the factories are in Germany. Hope this helps!

What is the difference between this and the Swissmar Borner V-1001 V-Slicer Plus?

Much easier and SAFER to change thickness on slices and dices. It is just a much better unit. I have both; the New one with the locking slice adjustment and the V-1001. The new one we use almost daily at home the v-1001 we took to our cabin and it is perfect as we don't do as much fancy cooking up there.

How much waste is there? I read a review of an older model that said that almost 1/3 of carrot cannot be cut due to the depth of device.

The hand guard has pins within the cup to hold and progress the item to be sliced by way of a palm depth control button. When you have pressed the button all the way in, the pins are exposed beyond the length of the hand guard. You should not have any waste if you use the hand guard and depth control button as you are slicing or dicing.

Is mandoline dishwasher safe?

Just checked the sleeve mine came in and there is no mention of whether it is dishwasher safe or not.Because it is plastic I would say yes, it is, but on the top shelf with the blade pushed in all the way so it doesn't get dull.I hand wash mine and am very happy to. It cleans up easily.
