Not the easiest process, thanks in large part to Apple, but after restarting the app a few times and re-plugging the storage device a few times, everything finally started working smoothly. Around 13,000 files backed up successfully!Tip to speed up the process: go into settings and turn OFF the "export to compatible format" option. While convenient for transferring to PC or Android because those platforms aren't very compatible with Apple's proprietary nonsense, this setting makes the app convert all your pictures to .PNG instead of simply copying them over. If you're moving thousands of files, it will take days. Once the Apple format files are on your PC, you can get apps for free that can convert from .HEIC to .PNG very quickly.
