Informative with great written text and illustrations.
Read the day before hike in known bear country. We did come across bear scat on trail. We took pictures so we could later analyze whether black bear or grizzly as we didn’t want to stick around too long! We believe it was black bear due to size. It made for some fun discussions.

Great book, compact size for my backpack
I really like this little book, it’s very informative. There’s a nice discussion of how to make records and cast tracks as well as the actual identification of them. The author is very knowledgeable and the book is just the right size to tuck in my backpack.

Everything--drawings of animals and their scat and tracks are in black and white
I would love to have actual photographs of the scat of each animal because the drawings are often so similar it's hard to differentiate. The descriptions are thorough including the length of the animal's stride. I enjoy seeing just who has been around my house at night and this book is helpful.

Great guidebook!
Useful and easy to use. Drawings are superb. Text is interesting! I found the book to be of great value the first day I received it and took it for a hike on my off the grid acreage. Now, I know what’s out there!

Great compact guide
Lots of great info and nice detailed pencil style drawings/pictures of the animals, tracks and scats. The book is nice, small and light for carrying along on hiking trips. Really great book if you are wanting to learn more about all the great wildlife of the Rockies.

Don't go into the woods, snow, sand, etc. without this!
We use this book all year round in our area, which is near Yellowstone. It is amazing how many animals are active in the dead of winter and leave their little (and big!) trails in and on the snow for us to notice. Well indexed, with interesting facts about a track's size, the space of the animal's pace, and lots of information about each creature's diet and fecal matter. We are always finding scats as we hike, making us ask "who dunnit?"

Great Guide.
As usual James Halfpenny presents an exultant guide to tracks. If you ever get the chance to do one of his classes be sure to do it.
