One of our favorites
For those thrust into homeschooling recently, you may not understand how Thinking Tree books work. They are not traditional workbooks with a set of directions that a child uses to practice a skill. Instead, they provide a creative platform and gentle guidance for documenting a study on a particular topic or topics. So you collect a few books, documentaries, activities, etc. related to a topic and use these pages to record what you are learning. We loved using this book with our nature guides and Bear Grylls’s how Survival School for my seven year old. Bear Grylls books are another great companion with this book. The pages give you topics to research and write about (first aid, medicinal plants, shelters, etc.) but sometimes we just use them to record what we are interested in, instead. For example, we don’t hunt so the page on hunting was used for more animal observations. I love the creativity and flexibility of these journals and my son loved the topic of this one!

Awesome
This book is so cool my little guy is 8 his daddy is helping him with this book recently they researched poisonous plants together at the library with this book. Older boys would definetly love doing this on their own. You have everything in here from wild life to plants, survival skills like fire and water and shelter. How to skills like knots, orienteering first side survival bag and different survival scenarios very cool book and I love that my husband and son can do this together my girls could certainly join in easily since thinking tree journals are for family use I can make copies for the children in my home!

Everyone Should Learn Survival Skills!
The Thinking Tree has come out with another winner! What a great book to learn and record your outdoor survival skills including flora and fauna...what's edible, what's poisonous, etc.; how to build fires, tie knots, and make shelter; first aid and orienteering; and how to find and purify water. The book also has some scenarios to practice your survival skills. My son and I are going to take my 10 and 14-year old grandsons and these journals to the woods on a friend's property and have "Survival School!" These are skills everyone should know, especially those who travel, camp, hike, or otherwise are around wilderness areas! Do some research using books, videos, or websites and fill out the journal pages then take them out and practice what you've learned. They have even included survival scenarios!

I love that it makes you dive deep!
Another incredible book by TTT. This is one that I got for my kiddos (8 & 9) and then ordered another for myself because I wanted to learn more about our wilderness alongside them. We LOVE camping and are working towards being more reliant on the land rather than what we pack. This workbook is turning into an incredible resource for us.Yes. You need to self start. Yes, you need to self lead. Yes, you need to pull your resources. All of that is what makes it SO good. There are prompts but people from all around the world can use this book and tailor it to their specific locations. That's the exact beauty of it.Thank you - Again!

Great book to learn basic survival skills - needs one alteration though
Love this book - the concept of learning through creating your own handbook is awesome. Only suggestion for improvement is about the section on dangerous animals - I was surprised insects weren't included while being utterly mystified by what 3 birds there could possibly be to include... We used white-out & changed ours, but it was puzzling to me. A little fine-tuning on the scenarios in the back wouldn't hurt, but less important. Overall though, a good purchase I have already recommended to others. And I shall keep my eyes open for scary birds from now on!

Loved by all our children!
This is "fun-schooling"!Honestly, I ordered it because it was on sale & wanted to see some the style before ordering other (more pricey) books by this same family. We were not disappointed. It contains just enough information to peak the students interest in a particular topic & loosely direct them through their own journey, learning as much or little as they are bent.Practical, entertaining & individual.Perfect for this family of 12.

Its a journal
If you love funschooling journals, this one is great. It engages your children to do the research with guided prompts. Its great paired with usbornes survival series and a knot kit. Its not a text book per say it prompts your children to take what they've learned to create their own textbook to their styling. I encourage you to go to funschooling.com

A wonderful Adventure
This has been one of my son’s favorite learning books. He takes it out side and uses it as his field guide of sorts. He takes notes, draws pictures, and researches animals, plants, and more. It has even been a book that has been used on camping trips. It’s pretty much complete and he is requesting another one.Thank you Fun Schooling for making a difference in our homeschooling life!
