Reusable Filter for Drinkwell hy-drate + 40 Refills

Tried it as directed... Worked ok but the "slime" level was a bit more than with the disposables. Since the water bowl is next to the food bowls it does get a fair amount. Also it didn't slow the flow when used for awhile, didn't make me happy.So I went to the local fancy tropical fish store and bought some filter medium. About $5 for 1.5 square feet. No idea if that's a good price, but I have the impression they use only the best, the fish there are way beyond what the chain pet stores carry.Cut a small piece off and put it in after the charcoal. No need to be neat, as long as it is bigger than the bottom of the holder.Now... No slime (even less than disposables), and it clogs after some time.. The amount of fur, food, etc. it caught was impressive.With the filter medium ($5 for over a year's worth), the charcoal (cheap), and the plastic holder I now have a better filter that costs less to use.While I think this kit is worth the cost: 4 stars rather than 5 because I think they should sell it with some type of filter. Charcoal alone just isn't enough.

I purchased to replace the 3-Pak filters for the Drinkwell Hydrate for dogs. I like it because I don't have to add to the landfill and it makes it easy to replace. It comes with charcoal that you place in the filter and then rinse with water. Some small pieces of charcoal do come out when you rinse, but is not an issue. A few pieces of charcoal won't hurt your pet if it is ingested. I just make sure that I rinse really well and all the small pieces of charcoal come out. This helps keep the water aerated and clean, and my dogs enjoy fresher water. Just follow instructions for the proper use and care for the Drinkwell Hydrate and Reusable Filter.

The filter is great, but the charcoal it comes with is large and doesn't seem to work as well as smaller type charcoal. Would absolutely recommend, but be aware you may have to get different charcoal. Much much better than purchasing multiple filters every month though.

Works at least as well as the disposable cartridges. Only problem is that, "slime" accumulates a little faster in the pump itself, as it moves through the this filter easier than the cartridges. This system is still much easier to clean than any other constant flow water dispenser than I have used before.

Works fine as far as I can tell. The water bowl still gets slimy pretty quickly but I don't know if that's down to the filter? If it does last for a long time, then it's a good deal and I like not throwing away disposable filters.

Now this is the kind of filter that is actually worth it when you put the effort. So glad I found this item. I paired it with a small piece of aquarium filter foam on top before closing it up for extra aid in filtering fur, food and dirt particles & I couldn’t be happier. Our cat drinks even more water than before with the premade filters. Highly recommend.

I got this and the drinkwell hy-drate for my cats. I like that you can refill the filter and they give you information on how to buy more activated charcoal. Unfortunately it is waaaaayyyyy too big. It is almost bigger than the drink well device itself. Have to return it but will look for something that fits.UPDATE: looking at the filter I received, it looks like they sent me the one that fits the Avalon and Sedona drinkwell, not hy-drate

The small insert is a challenge to remove from the fountain model I have. I have to put my letter opener in the opening to remove filter. Other than that does a good job filtering.
