A quick review with more to come - Very Happy So far.
This is just a quick review which I'll update later when I've had more time to play with the tablet as it's a Christmas present and needs wrapping.Just a quick bit of background. I recently bought a Tesco/Viglen Connect 10 Tablet of almost the same spec. The cameras on this refused to work and despite my considerable experience in IT there was nothing I could do to make them work, so I returned it.The Vortex V10 was essentially the same spec. but there were no reviews so a bit of a gamble but I think its paid off. Everything seems to work. The tablet itself weighs in at 680gms and seems to be slightly more robust than the Connect 10. The manual - huh! - is no more than a label with a brief pointer to the buttons. Basically useless. It comes with only a mains cable for recharging, so you may need to get yourself a mini HDMI cable and also USB cables. The mains charger cable is only 1.2m long and although the idea is to use the tablet unconnected there are times when having it plugged in is useful, such as when applying updates that take forever. The tablet has the usual On/Off/Sleep button and also the up/down volume buttons found on most phones and tablets. There are two USB connectors - one is a straight forward full size USB connector allowing peripheral devices to be attached. I tried a wireless mouse and it worked just fine. The other is a micro USB connector such as found on a smartphone and would require an On- the-go cable to be able to use it with a standard peripheral device but it should allow direct connection to another PC - which I haven't tried yet. I tried an OTG memory stick and this worked. The processor is a Quad core Baytrail and despite the header saying it works at 1.83GHz, the core frequency is 1.33GHz but it will burst up to 1.83GHz when needed. This feature makes the most of the battery which supposedly could last as long as 7-8hrs but depends on what you're doing. There's provision to add another microSD card to increase the internal storage from the 32Gbyte internally fitted. I'm waiting for a 64Gbyte module to arrive and then I can verify this. Took a bit of searching to actually find where the microSD card would fit as its not marked on the case.It comes with Windows 10, which once tamed, I like. However, be prepared to spend a few hours waiting for the updates to be applied as the version supplied is way out of date. Once all the updates were done everything still functioned OK but there is some 'bloatware' that I removed. The added bonus over the Connect 10 was the inclusion of a Keyboard/Cover. It's quite a useful feature and although the touch screen works very well some of the icons, links etc that you need to 'touch' are quite small because of the amount of information Windows is putting on the screen, which meant I was often touching the wrong point. I can't seem to find anyway of zooming in on the screen such as you can do on an Android tablet. So the addition of the keyboard, which includes a touch pad is very helpful at times. The keyboard works as a stand and cover reasonably well. The cover material is 'psuedo suede' and I'm not sure how well it wear but does protect the tablet. When you add the keyboard/cover the total weight comes in at just over 1Kg.Jan 13 2017.....This is the third time I've tried to add some more info but Amazon seemed to ignore the first two attempts.Still very happy with this tablet. The 64Gbyte microSD card works but the little plastic cover behind which it sits is a little flimsy and the retaining strip broke off, but this is no real problem as the cover clicks into place firmly. I've also tried my 2Tbyte WD Passport external hard drive and that works ok and doesn't need an external psu. Lots of other memory sticks work to.Just found one issue with the keyboard and that's the fact that mine has no backslash key - but it does have two forward slash keys - go figure.Gestures do work so you can zoom in/out on the screen. So all in all still impressed.I'll post more info as and when

Really pleased with this tablet
Really pleased with this tablet , really nice quality and I like the fact that it runs on Windows 10 , very easy to use and set up for someone who is not a computer geek like me. I bought this to replace my Android tablet as I have always found the Android system frustrating . And although I have only had this tablet for three days I found it as easy to use as my Laptop . I like it so much that I have just purchased another one for my wife. The only thing I would say is that the instruction booklet is not very good.

Really liking the performance
Ok, I'm a bit of a gadget nut. I wanted something in addition to my laptop, which is fairly portable but bigger. 7" tablets wouldn't cut it, I work from home and online mainly. But here are the main points I like:Integration with windows 10Set up took all of 5 minutesIt's fastThe integrated cover works and it's a great ideaThe cons:It's a bit heavyWhile the cover is lovely and works, do not think of being clumsy. Or the whole thing will fly....as the only thing that keeps the screen onto the keyboard is a pin.Battery life is less than statedBut overall it's brilliant and actually faster than my laptop....(The owls are my own addition...)

Unbeatable value
Possibly the best value piece of consumer electronics I've ever bought (and believe me I've bought a lot over the years). Nice screen, responsive OS, and at the price point utterly unbeatable. Bought for my father as a media player while he's in hospital and he loves it. Minor gripes surrounding the headphone volume (a bit low), the power adaptor (short cable and delicate connector) and wi-fi (it can play up from time to time), but these are small issues compared with the value on offer here. For £120, I can overlook many problems, and this tablet only has a few

Change Vortex to Poortext!
pity that they don't give proper instructions with it, or give advice for further information, the actual tablet is good.

Never allow Updates !
Surpisingly powerful but ruined by Windows 10 updates. For the last few weeks it has had no sound hardware detected, no automatic screen rotation, no touch capability, the onscreen keyboard doesn't automatically come up when needed and it couldn't see the SD card at all.I've since fixed all but the keyboard and rotation issues thanks to an Intel update file which wasn't easy to find.( Even a full factory restore wouldn't fix the above )There is somebody working on a Linux Mint build that may soon have all hardware working, roll on that day when Microsoft Winmalware 10 can be replaced easily !!
