The classic manga finally completely availible in English after 46 years.
The second (and final) volume of the hardcover omnibus style release of the influential 1972 Japanese comic book series, Devilman, this volumes release marks the first time Devilman has ever been fully released in English. Without giving spoilers, this volume gets very dark for its time, with some very shocking moments that make you want to keep reading. This series is hugely influential and paved the way for more violent andature content in Japanese comics. It's no understatement to say that without Devilman, we'd never have Berserk or Evangelion. This volume contains chapter 5 of Shin Devilman, followed by chapters 6-11 of the main Devilman series. As with volume one the Shin chapter is not advertised as being present, but is counted into the chapter numbering for the main series. The Shin Devilman chapter is a spin-off time travel story focusing on native americans. The merged chapter numbering is due to these two volumes being translations of the most recent Japanese release, which was released as 5 paperback volumes, but included Shin after chapter 5 of Devilman and removed short scenes here and there. To reiterate what I just mentioned, this volume is missing a few pages from the original 1972 printing, however this is due to it being a translation of the most recent Japanese release so is not an attempt at censorship by seven seas. I can't comment on the quality of translation as I can't read Japanese, but the script flows as good as you'd expect from a comic from nearly 50 years ago. Nagai has an energetic style which may be off putting for some, but has a charm to it. Presentation of the volume is as good as volume 1, so good there. I still wish we got the one volume edition which was released in Italy, but this is good enough. With Devilman and Cutie Honey now available in English, I hope this paves the way for more classic Go Nagai works making there way over here. I'd love to see Lady Devilman and Violence Jack in particular, plus if we're talking Nagai we've got to see Mazinger Z eventually.

Go Nagai’s best work
I absolutely loved Devilman: Crybaby but when i delved deeper into the franchise and read Nagai’s original manga, I fell in love all over again. Definitely worth a read!

Some v interesting themes
Some v interesting themes; how we humans tend to treat the marginalized, and how it takes all too little for us to turn on and destroy each other, and how fear and distrust create grand tragedies.

Devilman is great
Story is iconic, panelling is great, artwork is so clean and feels well worth the money, but the book itself came with numerous scuffs and scratches, 100% buy in a physical store so you can check the quaity before buying yourself
