Firstly, I never review. Too damn busy for that. But after receiving the Transcend 1TB from Amazon, I must say damn I'm impressed. For the past 3 days I've been glued to the laptop transferring my entire photographic library from CD to Hard Drive, and it has been a pleasure. Fast speeds and a single usb which DOESN'T disconnect at the slightest movement. So far, this is quite possibly the best external drive I have bought, hands down. It feels rugged and has a great rubberized texture. I also bought a Case Logic hard drive case to keep it safe in transit, which is a bonus to keep the drive clean and usb cable with the hard drive at all times. I haven't tested the 'drop test' and no I wont be throwing it out the window any time soon, but it does feel sturdier and the construction is more that sufficient to keep the delicate components of a moving parts drive safe. So all in all, a happy buyer here. As with any drive, will keep my fingers crossed nothing crashes over the next few weeks/months as I've had happen to me before with other branded hard drives, but I've got a feeling this one will be just fine. Highly recommended!

I use this mainly to hold TV Recordings, and a few documents so that I can replay them all on my laptop when out and about, or on holiday. It comes with a suite of software, all of which means nothing to me as all I need is the storage space. One terabyte of storage is an awful lot of data storage packet into such a small space. I bought a matching case for it that holds the drive, and its usb connecting cable in a convenient package that slips easily into a corner of the most tightly compressed suitcase or hand luggage. This is my fourth Transcend storejet. I favour these Storejet external hard drives as I can attest to their ruggedness and reliability. If you are naturally as clumsy as I am then you will appreciate that these Storejets can bounce a little without any lasting damage, or loss of data. Because of costly experiences with external hard drives there are a couple of brands that I will not touch, ever again. However, I can thoroughly recommend Transcend Storejets as they have never let me down yet. My only doubt is wondering if they float or not?

Nice litte rugged USB3 harddisk. The ONLY problem is that it requires a 2xUSB connection to your laptop/computer. All good, unless you have a new MacBookPro Retina which features only 2xUSB ports, each one on opposite ends of the keyboard. The USB cable that comes supplied with the device isn't long enough to have both USBs connected into the MacBook Retina, without the use of a (separate) USB extension cable. I suspect this wouldn't be a problem on other equipment, but be warned you'll need two USB ports to get this working. On the flipside, it doesn't need any external power DC plug. I used to always go with LACIE rugged drives, but they've grown a little too fat lately and are out-pricing themselves from my business. Welcome Transcend. Just as fast, just as rugged but with enough change left over to have a good night out down the bar. A good quality product, 4 stars purely because of the 2 x USB requirement and the lack of pre-sales information available letting you know it needs 2 x usb connections to work. Otherwise a good HD.

just what I was looking for

Brought for our son who has a medical condition casing him to drop things. He needed some extra memory and after a trawl round the internet I came upon the Transcend 2TB 2.5 inch USB 3.0 StoreJet Military Grade Shock Resistance Portable External Hard Drive. The USB 3.0 is great as it provides significant data transfer rates. If the drive is connected via a USB 2 connection then a second connection is also required. To check which USB connection you have look in the laptop/desktop sockets, if they are blue you have USB 3 otherwise its USB 2. I can't say that the shock Resistance works but it does seem rugged and the anti slip casing gives a really good grip. Storage is massive at 2GB and for the price is really excellent. My 1TB hard drive is nearly full and I will certainly be buying another of these in the future.

This product takes a very long time to mount. I am told there is a chkdsk facility in it but sometimes it starts to spin but then doesnt mount at all. This means you cant always access it when you want or at all. I couldnt wait to get my data off it onto an SSD drive as I was also getting a message that there was a problem with the disk and Windows Repair couldnt fix it. I eventually accessed it on a Mac High Sierra and took the data off it bit by bit and deleted as i went just in case it disconnected and went through the chkdsk again. I wouldnt buy it again, but I deal with very large batches of data like 1TB for work. Maybe its OK for personal stuff in much lower volumes, but in trying to transfer 1.05 TB off it, it stopped responding after 871 GB and disconnected. I have wasted so much time with this disk trying to get it to connect to access my data, its like a weight off my mind now I can throw it away.
