Great Unit.
I’ve been in the market for a new receiver for a while. I had an old Denon receiver that I’ve had for years, but it lacked HDMI inputs/outputs. Side note - I worked at an electronics store for 8 years and have a lot of experience with a wide variety of equipment. This new unit is much easier to use than my old receiver. The interface for Yamaha units is really straightforward and intuitive - as compared with Denon, which always seemed like a mess. The WiFi connectivity makes it really easy to use airplay and control music streaming and volume with my phone. If you’re considering this unit vs a Bluetooth only model, it’s worth the extra money. The Airplay and audio quality are well worth the added price.

Seamless 4K Integration. Rudimentary Setup Menu.
I upgraded from a Yamaha RX-V867 receiver in order to get 4K and HDCP capability. I'm quite pleased with the upgrade.Pros:- Seamless 4K capability. HDCP v2.2 interfaces perfectly with my Samsung M9700 4K Blu Ray Player and Samsung QN75Q8FN 4K Television. The receiver passes 4K signals through to the TV and the TV clearly acknowledges that it is receiving a UHD signal.- The receiver has a 4K upconverting option that can be turned on. I think it adds some improvement to non-UHD sources, but I'm not positive. It's not an "oh, that's obvious" kind of improvement.- HDMI pass-through works flawlessly. Even when the receiver is off, it will pass the blu ray player signal (including UHD signals) to the TV.- I really like the automatic YPAO microphone feature for quickly setting up and tuning the initial sound settings.- Bi-Amp option pushes extra power to my front right and front left channel Polk Audio Monitor 70 Tower Speakers.- I like the 7-channel music setting so that I can get 2-channel stereo music through all of the speakers rather than through just the right front and left front channels.- Audio Return Channel function works well. It's nice being able to use the Smart TV apps and get sound through the receiver rather than always needing to use the blu ray player.- The top is fully grated to help with heat dissipation; however, since I have my receiver in a closed entertainment center, I still put a small USB-powered fan on it in order to encourage ventilation.- The HDMI CEC functions works well with my blu ray player and TV. The volume controls on the blu ray player remote and TV remote will control the receiver volume. Play, fast forward, rewind buttons, etc. on the receiver remote will also operate the blu ray player and TV. The power buttons on the various devices will also turn on or turn off upstream and downstream devices as necessary.- Firmware upgrades can be accomplished directly from the remote control and the setup menu rather than needing to push a certain button combination on the front panel like my previous model.- While it has WiFi capability, I appreciate that it still has an ethernet port. I prefer that method of LAN interface.- It's not a power hog. I have all equipment in my entertainment center connected to a Cyberpower CP1500PFCLCD UPS System. The UPS can operate the entire setup for about an hour when the power goes out.Cons:- While the on-screen setup menu graphical user interface (GUI) is better than my previous model, it's still rudimentary. The menu column only uses the left 1/3rd side of the screen. It would be nice to see Yamaha put a better GUI on the menu.- DLNA function works nicely to access my huge NAS-based music library, but the menu only uses 1/4 of the screen, so it's a pain trying to scroll through to find what I want. For this reason, I find myself accessing my NAS music library through the blu ray player rather than through the receiver.- Yamaha ditched the front HDMI input in favor of a USB input. I'm far more apt to temporarily connect an HDMI device (like a laptop) to the receiver than a USB device, so I didn't like that change.

Broken down in less than two years, not good!
I bought it on Amazon. Got it all set up, with wireless speakers as well. I have normally used Siri to turn on/off everything. Today I tried to use the AV to play music on my iPhone then I realised I could not turn the AV unit off. When I played music or video through it, only the center speaker functions and provides any audio. The front display is completely dark and there is no way I can turn it back. Pushing "Direct" or "Straight" does nothing. The Radio is not working and nothing happens if some buttons on the front panel or remote controls are pushed but others with blinking signal. I tried to turn it off with 15 second push-down on the power button as suggested by the manual but it just goes back to the old way. I cannot still turn this POS off. I can still play Apple TV through it but one audio channel, what did I pay so much for? This is really bad job of Yamaha!

Great price and product, accurately described, double boxed and arrived a day early.
The RX-V585 is replacing an eight year old Pioneer Elite receiver and I feel this was a nice upgrade. Fedex had the package the morning after I placed the order and I received an unopened box with a brand new unit at a great price as described in the offer. I'm very happy with this vendor and purchase.

High quality sound and overall engineering. A bargain at $500!
This receiver is an exceptional buy at $500. Only one thing to complain about. When I turn the system on it should automatically go to "satellite" if thats the last input it was on and stay there until I change it. But it doesn't matter which input I used last, it always switches itself to "blue ray". A minor annoyance but an annoyance nevertheless. I have to manually change to satellite and most of the time it will jump back to blue ray again so I have to do it twice. I tried interchanging the cables but the receiver still manages to find the blue ray first. Because of this I am changing to a four star rating.
