My initial search for a more compact companion camera stemmed from a desire to streamline my gear. I've been slowly purchasing more versatile RF L-series lenses for my main body, and needed something truly portable for travel and everyday carry – a short lens solution that wouldn't weigh me down. The X100VI, on paper, ticked the "short/travel camera" box, but could it truly satisfy a full-frame noble snob like myself? Let me tell you, the X100VI has not just surprised me; it’s genuinely charmed me. The fixed 23mm f/2 lens (equivalent to 35mm on full frame) is surprisingly versatile. It’s wide enough for landscapes and street photography, yet offers enough separation for pleasing portraits. My initial concerns about the lack of lens options have faded as I’ve embraced the creative constraints. This single, superb lens encourages a different way of seeing, forcing me to move my feet and find the shot rather than relying on a zoom ring. I now see light better and have become more artistic. You don't have to move the dials, they can stay on Auto, but this camera practically calls you out to use them - and you'll want to! But the real magic of the X100VI lies in that elusive "Fujifilm vibe." It's hard to quantify, but it's undeniably present in every image. The color science is simply stunning. Out-of-camera JPEGs possess a richness and character that often required significant post-processing with my Canon files. The film simulations are more than just filters; they evoke a sense of nostalgia and imbue photos with a distinct aesthetic. Whether it's the classic Velvia punch, the subtle tones of Classic Chrome, or the warm rendering of Nostalgic Neg., each simulation offers a unique starting point that feels authentic and inspiring. Beyond the image quality, there's a tactile joy to using this camera. The retro design, the physical dials for aperture, shutter speed, and ISO, and the hybrid rangefinder style viewfinder all contribute to a more engaging and deliberate shooting experience. It slows you down in the best possible way, encouraging you to think about the fundamentals of photography. Why do people truly love this camera? It's not just about the specs; it's about the feeling it evokes. It's about the beautiful simplicity of a well-crafted tool that encourages creativity and delivers stunning results with a unique visual signature. It’s about the joy of capturing moments with a camera that feels like an extension of your eye. The Fujifilm X100VI has unexpectedly slotted perfectly into my evolving photographic workflow. It provides that short lens perspective I was seeking in a remarkably portable package, and it does so with a distinct character that my Canon setup, while technically proficient, sometimes lacked. It hasn't replaced my full-frame system, but it has become an indispensable companion, offering a different perspective and a unique creative outlet. Don't just take my word for it. I was lucky enough to find an X100VI in stock on Amazon for MSRP and have been enjoying it for the past few days. This isn't a camera for everyone as it has a fixed focal length and is pretty pricey. If you're just looking to use the film simulations, you're probably better off getting a cheaper model like the X-T50. If you're looking for a grab-and-go camera for trips and don't want to fuss with lenses, this is the one for you. The camera feels solid in your hands and all the buttons and dials feel high quality. The implementation of IBIS (in body image stabilization) is one of the reasons I sold my X100V for this. The built-in ND filter comes in handy when shooting during the day and allows for better creativity.

This is an unusual review as the Fuji X100 VI is an excellent camera, so why the two stars? Because when I went to register the product with Fuji I found that the serial number on the box was different from the one on the camera. This made me suspect that it could have been a returned item, or there was some other issue. I have returned it for a refund and will order directly from a Fuji dealer and put up with the wait.
