Richard Scarry's What Do People Do All Day?

It is the unabridged edition ! We have loved this book. I already had the abridged edition but couldn't resist buying the original version when it was available on Amazon. It is a joy to read Richard Scarry's books.

I bought this book for my son about 25 years ago and now bought it for my grsndnephew. The book's appeal is lasting.

Kids love it. Very lucid way to make the children understand the social concepts. Excellent.

Bedtime has become a series of adventures as our family explores the colorful and fun world of Busytown in Richard Scarry's What Do people Do All Day. Our three-year-old loves following along with each vignette, searching for Lowly worm, Bananas the gorilla or several other of his favorite cast of characters that are part of the wonderful tapestry this book weaves. Each story helps explain how something in our great-big adult world works. Stories such as how the cotton that the farmer grows is sold to make thread to then be turned into cloth that will be made into clothes which the farmer can buy for his family with the money he made selling the cotton. Or how electricity is produced through the use of coal and steam to power a generator, and how that electricity powers all the modern conveniences we just take for granted. The stories provide a great launching pad for further discussions into how things work, why something happens, or just exploration into our world in general. And, while some of the examples do show their age in how the technology has progressed in the last 50 years, the basic principles remain the same. At the core, this book provides a solid basis for young children and their parents to begin to engage on what goes on in the world, beyond our own homes. We have found that our own son loves to return to the stories after we have read them, and tell us how something works - complete with sound effects and a gleam in his eye. It makes me happy to know that on several levels he is gaining and retaining a great understanding of the interactive world we live in. If you have a child in your life that show any level of curiosity at what is going on around them, if you want to encourage the exploration of how the larger processes and mechanisms that drive our society work - start with Richard Scarry's What Do People Do All Day.

Had this book when I was a child and bought it for my own kids. They love the pictures and also gives insight on what people do all day ;)

Muy buen libro, muy completo, con grandes ilustraciones y un vocabulario extenso para que los pequeños refuercen su conocimiento en el idioma inglés. Me encantó este libro de Richard por sus personajes. A mi sobrina le ha encantado El envío fue fabuloso como siempre, con rapidez

I remember having this book when I was young, so reliving it 35 years later is a treat. I love how it shows how things work at every level throughout the town! Yes it's a bit dated, but my 3 year old loves me reading different chapters to her each night.
