A True Masterpiece
The game is a complete joyride from start to finish. The capture mechanic is the main focus of this game. Mario can take control of his enemies my throwing his cap at them. It is very well designed and never grows stale. Each world has something new to offer and the game has a heavy focus on exploration. I spent a lot of time collecting the various power moons. The soundtrack is amazing with the music in Cascade Kingdom being my favourite. If you have played the vintage Mario games, you will love the small 2D sections in some stages which are a fitting tribute to the 8-bit era. This is my first 3D Mario game. For the first few days after buying this game I felt that the platforming was not as precise as the 2D ones but once I got familiar with the controls, I just fell in love with this game. I recommend using the motion controls though the game can be completed without them.In the current age of video games, there is a heavy emphasis on story and more often than not, video game stories are very dark and depressing. Super Mario Odyssey however, has gameplay at its front and centre. There is a story in this game but you won't have to sit and watch 15 minute long cutscenes like some other games. This game is jam-packed with content and playing this game fills my heart with delight every time I play it.The main game is not very difficult to complete but if you are looking for a real challenge, the post game challenges will not disappoint.Super Mario Odyssey is a truly brilliant game and my new best video game of all time!

Another classic from Nintendo!
Super Mario Odyssey was a game that I had penned in my calendar to keep track of when it was releasing. I got the Nintendo Switch primarily because of two games: Zelda & Mario, which are both Nintendo exclusives.Mario is simply a fun game to play. Super Mario Odyssey's major gimmick is Cappy, the cap with a soul that you can use to possess other creatures and interact with your environment. This makes for some super interesting puzzles and gimmicks. The first time you possess a T-Rex is an experience worth remembering. The graphics are beautiful, and each land is different and gorgeous, from the black and white cap island, to the lush green forests, and sandy deserts and beautiful beaches and underwater as well. There are lovely 2D segments interspersed within the game as well, which are a great throwback to the 8-bit super mario era.The controls are impeccable, and other than minimal camera issues, there is no concern whatsoever. Mario responds on a dime, running, jumping and turning as soon as you think it. The motion controls are a gimmick, and it is possible to complete the entire game without using them. The story is classic Mario, as Bowser has kidnapped Princess peach and is now planning the perfect marriage, and it is upto Mario and Cappy to prevent it from happening, chasing after Bowser from one land to another. The game itself though it quite short if you just want to breeze through the basic story with the minimal moons to capture. I finished my first run through in less than 15 hours. But that said, there are a lot of moons to capture, side quests and hidden areas that makes it worth just exploring and having fun in the lovely game that Nintendo has created!

Absolute gem of a game
This was the second 3D Mario game that I played after 3D Land for the 3DS. Even then, the game feels like a completely new entry into the series, with sandbox-type worlds for Mario to run around in. There is a lot of scope for replayability, as you will certainly go back to previous worlds to unlock all costumes for Mario and stickers for his airship along with some cool post-game content. The unique mechanic of this game allows you to take over the minds and bodies of enemies and even friendly creatures. It's very refreshing to get to play as Goombas and Bullet Bills and even the newer Mario staples, 30 or so years after they made their debut.I would suggest playing this with headphones if you're playing in portable mode, especially for the New Donk City finale during the main story.

Must have for Switch
The game has hours and hours of content. It seems like Mario has only a few mechanics at first, but as you progress you learn that using a combination of different mechanics opens a world of possibilities. You need only 120 moons to finish the story, but after you do, the levels repopulate with more moons and challenges and unlocks extra levels at 250 and 500 moons respectively. And even after that there are around 999 moons to collect in total.I have been playing for over 50 hours and still have only 400 moons so the game has tonnes of replay value.

Mario never fails to impress
The 3D Mario series has always been in the top class tier of video games since Super Mario 64 which came out 23 years ago, and the newest installment is no different. Super Mario Odyssey offers a wide variety of gameplay mechanics, levels and quests like typical 3D Mario platformers. However, Odyssey's emphasis on exploration as well as extended moveset and possibilities, alongside a new mechanic sets Odyssey apart from its predecessors and brings an open world, free experience to the Mario experience.
