Great Price to performance ratio
Runs cooler than the 5950X and only 100mhz slower single threaded. Pulls ahead in multi threaded apps as it doesn’t thermal throttle as quickly adding longevity to the old AM4 socket. Great for autocad and cpu intensive applications while gaming performance is still great but depending on the game disabling the second CCD might help with latency. With the current DDR5 pricing this processor while help keep your DDR4 system kicking for a few more years.

Overall solid, get an AIO LC
Very good card if you pair it with a good GPU, definitely get a AIO Liquid cooler cuz this gets very hot, very much entry level hotty, I have not personally overlocked it but with the right cooling I’m sure it can get good numbers, boot times are good but depends on your bio settings, stable card, games that are cpu heavy are very much welcomed here. Overall a good investment for a relative cheap price if you get it around Black Friday.

Great for Sub-$300 in 2025. No issues. Runs at good temps under load.
Great for the price. The multitask is good and efficient. For AM4, this is pretty much like the 5950X, so basically the top of the line, if you will. Pretty sure it will last another good 5 years before it starts to fall off to newer tech and software upgrades. Good for gaming. Pair with a decent GPU and you have a mid-high tier gaming PC/Workstation. Runs at 70 Deg C under load with AIO. That's very good in my book.

Cool , and fast , no regrets !
Grabbed this 5900xt to replace my 5900x (a nice over clocker) , as the 5900x was going into another rig . ~ So far the 5900xt has been fantastic , cool and fast . ~ Doing a somewhat mild PBO overclock, the chip does consistent 5100/5150+ on most cores (and up to 5265+) . ~ The chip has been 100% problem free, and its matched with a MSI Tomahawk 570S Wifi and 64 gig 3600 (2x32) . ~ I do has ths chip under water (a mild Alpha Cool setup with two rads) .This chip will definitely AND EASILY hold me off till AMD 6 . *** Added note : I do heavy game with this also with 3 34" Ultrawide monitors in AMD EyeInfinity (3 screens as one) using a Sapphire 7900xtx Nitro+ at a resolution of 10300 x 1400 . No problems running any AAA game , with this 5900xt and 7900xtx . ~ Again Iam pretty well set till AM6 .

Upgraded from a 5600x
This thing is a monster! Coming from a OC 5600x, this is definitely a sidegrade rather than upgrade. More cores = more heat. I was cooling with a Deepcool ak620, and this runs much hotter. Base clock speeds are slightly lower, but overall performance is off the charts. I use my PC for more than gaming, so this was a logical choice rather than frame chasing.

Impressed!!
It's far superior to the Ryzen 5 5600x I had before. The difference in workflow for 3D modeling and rendering is abysmal, and gaming is even better. You can cool it with a Thermalright Frost Tower 120 CPU air cooler. There's no need to buy the most expensive cooler they recommend; it maintains a stable 70°C under maximum load. I recommend the Thermal Grizzly KryoSheet (38x38x0.2mm) – a graphene thermal pad that's easy and clean to install.

Nice CPU for the money
I think my main concern in relation to this item is whether or not this is actually a previously returned item. The CPU was shipped inside a paper pouch instead of a box. It got lost for two days and when it got here whatever it went through either tore that tamper seal or this was used which is not reflected in the sales link. I made sure to check all the pins very closely. Everything was in good shape and there was no sign of paste as if it had been installed before. As to performance this thing is darned powerful. A lot of people call this a 5950 (non X) in that it is barely 3% slower than its higher line (and price) brother in the 5950X. Not really sure why AMD opted to go with a naming pattern that would seem to indicate it being a 12C/24T CPU rather than the 16C/32T that it is. Functionally I am seeing speeds from around base clock up to 4.8GHz. It is currently under a cooler that really isn't up to the task but even so it hasn't gone above the mid 70's even in synthetic testing. During games it typically hovers right around 70C. I have not taken the time to do anything with PBO or voltage adjustments. I felt it was best to keep it stock for a while to be sure no issues arise. It does a terrific job with all the games I have thrown at it. I expect that once I update the build to the graphics card and power supply I have in mind that the cooler will also have to be updated to something more suitable.

poor compatibility with gigabyte aorus x470, works well with MSI B550
Update: Be careful of your motherboards. This doesn't work well with the Aorus x470. AMD and Gigabyte are pointing fingers at each other; I'm inclined to believe AMD's diagnosis that the Gigabyte BIOS is buggy, rather than GIgabyte's assertion that the CPU is faulty. Upon installation on an MSI B550 board it booted right away, saw all my memory, booted into linux and immediately started doing the work I had set to it. On LLM tasks it's about 20% faster, even for workloads that fully fit on the GPU: ~80tok/sec from deepseek-coder-v2 to a bit over 100tok/sec. Running llama on CPU generated code at about 4tok/sec, up from 3tok/sec. Nothing else to report .. it just goes faster. Original: maybe I got a defective unit, maybe the bios is buggy, but this thing will not do anything other than turn on the red CPU_FAIL led on a gigabyte aorus x470 wifi 5 gaming board with bios versions F65d or F65g... even though this cpu is supposedly supported as of version F60. AM4 CPU installation is easy enough assuming the thermal solution isn't in the way: it either settles easily into the socket if you have it the right way around and properly aligned, or it doesn't. I had high hopes for this processor, but since it's absolutely useless to me in this moment I can only give it one star and see what gigabyte tech support has to say.,

The best VFM processor Ive purchased!

Placed order, item came a week earlier then expected and installed with a Noctua D12l and got running the day of delivery. I upgraded from a 3600 so the difference is insane. Render times are about halved and it is definitely something to see all 16 cores put to use. If you are trying to extend the life of an AM4 platform or holding out for AM6, I would definitely recommend upgrading to this chip which will still be a beast for another few years. 9950x 50% faster on average in multicore workloads but factor in the cost of ram and mobo upgrades and I would argue it’s not worth it.

The power for the price is unbelievable. It's a hot boy tho. Water cooling is absolutely required
