DeLorme Atlas & Gazetteer: Tennessee

As a person recently arrived in Tennessee, I wanted this to help me with finding out which counties are where and to help me find places for my recreation. I am disappointed on both accounts. IF you already know where the county you are looking for should be, you can find the borders, but if not then you have to go elsewhere. And many places are neither highlighted in the maps or included in the index. For example, Haw Ridge Park is a name on the map, but there is nothing to indicate its presence, while a nearby golf course is surrounded by green; and a state park such as Seven Islands State birding park is not in the map at all (including atlas and gazetteer). The map I purchases is labeled with 2017, so it is not even that old. My final complaint is that the index is really small and printed with pale gray. That is modern, but it is not helpful for older eyes - and young eyes are not purchasing this kind of map, they rely 100% on their phone.The strange thing is that when I lived for a short period of time in Wisconsin and had a delorme product for that state -- about 20 years ago -- then I could use the map for all the things I had hoped to use this one for.

So, I don't have a GPS. Probably should. My phone was almost dead when I lost service anyway in a large forest away from humanity. This handy book kept me from getting lost. No, it doesn't talk to you like a GPS does. No, there's no dash mount for a giant book of maps. Yes, you have to stop and look at it every once in a while. But it has served me well, and it's one less screen to be distracted by while I'm driving tricky roads with no shoulder and thousand-foot dropoffs.

I ordered several of these maps thinking that we would have up to date maps of different states. non of these were 2017. Some were 10 years old. Many new roads have been built. That are not on mapsWill not buy any more.

This updated edition is great. Much improved over older DeLorme map. More detail and maps almost seem to be 3 dimensional.

This is the "ONLY" map book that has the county roads listed and marked. This alone make it invaluable. It also lists great recreational stuff in the entire state which is awesome for exploring.

Great Atlas. Shows all the backroads. I intend to buy more for different states. We have been on lots of backroads and knew where they would take us.
