Fast! Fatal flaw. Will lose APFS Volume randomly and when computer updates (I own 3 of these)
MACBOOK PRO USER!!! Purchased for Video Editing via MacBook Pro.BLUF: You will lose your APFS Volume. Be prepared. You will end up purchasing a program to retrieve your files. Do not use this drive for long-term storage. You will regret it. This drive should be used as a fast shadow drive for intense applications (Final Cut Pro) while maintaining the original data on a slower long-term drive.I have purchased three of these. I love them. But buyers should beware!!!!My Pro SSDs are formatted as APFS. When my computer updates, which happens often, I have randomly lost one of APFS volumes on restart. I own three of these. This problem has affected all of these Pro SSDs at different times....and each occurrence was following a computer restart.I just purchased one approximately three months ago. This newest one just dumped the volume this week, following a software update and a computer restart. My Workflow:Unfortunately, I have several hard drives plugged in because of video editing....just the nature of my job. However, the 4TB Pro SSD was plugged directly into my MacBook Pro and I lost the volume on the newest drive. To the outside observer, it may be my fault because I have so many drives plugged in. But on the other hand, all of my hard drives and non-Pro SSDs retain their volumes following restart. Additionally, all of my SSDs are formatted APFS. I have approx. 6 SSDs (APFS formatted) plugged in to USB strips while these Pro SSDs are plugged into the physical computer ports. The non-Pro SSDs have not been afflicted in the same way as these Pro SSDs following computer restart.TREND ANALYSIS:Something is wrong here. I think they should fix this problem. Had I known that this would disrupt my work, I would have chosen a different solution...especially for the price of these Pro SSDs.My SOLUTION:I spent several weeks trying to mount the volume via terminal codes without success.I had to purchase a software program to retrieve my files. Luckily, I was able to receive them for a low price.CONCLUSION: Don't buy. The speed of the drive doesn't overcome the fear of data loss or disruption to your workflow!
