Found asking what others used for coloring outside of a salon. My coworkers mother uses and is happy with this product in another color.Followed the easy included directions for an all over color. Steps included for just roots as well. Bottle prefilled with activation cream, tube of color selected, gloves, hair cap, small shampoo, small conditioner, and cleaning cloth were also in the box.I have short, fine but a lot of hair. There was more than enough to do full coverage and eyebrows for me.A little hard to apply if you are used to brush application, but easy to catch on aside from baby hairs around the face (I put that cleaning cloth to good use figure that out!). Also, the cleaning cloth worked on my counter and sink wonderfully and was worried about using it on my skin after that lol, but accidental mark on the door to get a towel stained. Washed out great and didn’t stain nor leave a residue in my shower .Before color, processing, wash/dry, and straightened photos included.Worked great for me.

This color is so pretty, but it does stick your hair really well. The vibrancy faded however, I dyed my hair brown after and it still has a really pretty red into it.

Firstly, the hair color wound up being nothing like how it appeared on the box and turned an ugly purple color (I had ordered the burgundy box) even after meticulously following the instructions - obviously not what I was going for. Secondly, the chemical smell that lingers on your head/hair for days after using this hair dye is so strong, it’s given me migraines for about a week now. Look up Madison Reed class action and you’ll see that this brand routinely replaces known irritating chemicals with harsher, more severe ones that are known carcinogens - wish I had known that before taking a chance on this brand that totes itself as being salon quality! Overall not a great product or experience, I’ll never use anything made by this brand again and I’d urge anyone to avoid these products.

Even though semis are preferred to demis for gray coverage and have a greater color range, I prefer to use demis because they’re gentler and won’t require stripping if I decide to get my hair dyed at a salon.Madison Reed is the only brand I could find with a purple demi, Plum and Then Some, and it looks great. I was able to get it cover my grays (see end of review for process). The dye starts off almost black, but after a few washes, the purple starts to show vividly, especially in the sun.My only knock is that my hair has been transferring color to towels and pillows even after several washes. Oxiclean handles it fine, but I haven’t had this issue with another demi dye.BTW - To get demi dyes to stick to gray hair, I wash my hair first with a clarifying shampoo to remove buildup. Then I gently dry and straighten (with no heat protectant) to make application easier. During application, I use as much of the bottle as I can and let it sit for over 30 minutes. Then I rinse with cold water and follow up with the packaged conditioner.

I really like this hair dye. It's less harsh than the traditional harsh box dyes I have used for years. I also appreciate the demi color so I dont get a harsh grow out color line.

I didn't expect Grey coverage from a demi color, so I'm not mad that it didn't. What I am mad about is that for the price I paid I had really hoped this wouldn't be totally brassy and flat or be as drying as other box dyes. Save your money. Seriously. Maybe their permanent dye is good, but this was not even worth HALF of the purchase price.

Update!: bumping this down to 3 starts because I have washed my hair 3 times and it’s already out of it 😭😭😭 I wanted to love it !!I’ve always wanted to dye my hair, but I have black hair I never wanted to bleach my hair. I decided to give us a shot. I also have some gray hair in my bangs it covered my gray bangs nicely by hair has a beautiful purple tint to it. I am very happy with this product. I’ve only washed my hair once after I initially dyed it so I’m unsure how it holds up

The dye looked so bright red, I was a little scared. The shower looked like a murder scene, but the result was great - brown with a warm undertone. Don’t be scared by its bright color!
