Retrospec by Westridge Critical Cycles Beaumont-7 Seven Speed Lady's Urban City Commuter Bike

Prefacing his review by saying I'm an experienced bike owner that has always done my own bike maintenance. I ride nearly every day and am pretty good at handling all the basics of bike mechanics. This bike is replacing my precious Globe Live 1 that I owned for seven years and kept in excellent condition. Why the downgrade? I wanted a step thru frame and more gears as I now have two babyseats and no longer live in a relatively flat area. I was only going to spend on a bike what I could get from selling my Globe. After a bunch of market research and failing to find what I wanted used near me, I decided to go for a "cheap" new bike from amazon.I've only owned this bike 24 hours but wanted to post a review of my first impressions from unpacking through assembly, and the first ride. I will update this review again in a month.Out of he box but still bundled up, I was pleased. It appeared to have been packaged well and I didn't see anything to cause alarm. As I unwrapped it I found a couple tiny nicks in the paint. I expected to find a few of these, and was thus looking out for them. I intend to contact the company and see if it's possible to get a little thing of matching paint to repair these nicks and thus avoid rust. It was only a few and within the realm of what I expected. Nothing appeared to be bent out of shape.Assembly went well, apart from it taking three times longer than it should since I had a five year old and a one year old "helping" with everything. Took about 90 minutes, but if I'd been alone I imagine it would have taken about 30. Everything was really straight forward to me and I didn't feel the need to use the instructions, but followed along with them just so I could see what they were like as other reviewers complained about them. The instructions seemed perfectly fine to me. I DO suggest you make sure you have some bike lube already on hand. As a bike owner you should already have at LEAST lube and a pump to begin with. The lube was necessary for getting one of the pedals screwed in to place and the instructions actually recommend lube on multiple steps. I spent a little more time getting the front wheel properly aligned. If you are assembling the bike yourself and have no experience working on a bike, I recommend watching a YouTube video to learn how to do this. It's normal for it to take a bit of force to get it in. Once I had it in I did find the fork to be ever so slightly bent out of shape. I imagine it got smashed from side a little in the box so I just gave it a good stomp in the other direction and presto! BUt I don't necessarily recommend my technic 😅. After that was taken care of I aligned and tuned the brakes. The instructions recommend that if you are inexperienced with this to take it to a bike shop. Good advice! But, if you plan to be a regular rider it's also one of the most important hints to know how to do yourself, so don't be afraid to once again look up some YouTube videos and learn how to do it yourself. I also fully removed he brake pads and roughed them up with sandpaper To prevent squealing. They may not have squeaked at all, but I highly doubt it. Every time I've ever put new brake pads on a bike they have required a little roughing up.The rest was really straightforward, follow the instructions and you will be fine!My first spin around the block was good and everything seems to be working well. After I've ridden it a couple weeks I DO intend to take it in to a more experienced bike mechanic for a good check-up to make sure everything is running true and that I haven't missed anything.Bikes often go through a settling in period and even when assembled by a proffessional it's good sense to take it back after about 20 hours of riding to have it checked over again. I imagine by then my wheels will need to be trued, specifically having the spokes properly tightened and that's a bit beyond my own capabilities.I detracted a star because of the nicks, the bell doesn't ding at all (no worries, I already own a far superior bike bell) and because it is definitely a basic, cheap "made-in-china" bike. though so far seems like a pretty good bike for the price.If you're intimidated by assembly, please don't hesitate to take it in to a bike shop! Most assemble bikes for $30-$50 and you could ask to watch and be walked through basic bike maintenance while they do it. Then you'll not only know it's properly assembled (and if there's anything "off" they'll know how to handle that) but you'll learn some good bike maintenance skills yourself!UPDATE: the third time I road the bike the gears started acting rather finicky. I tuned them up and they are shifting smoothly again and haven't had a problem on the several rides since.I DID contact critical cycles about getting some paint for touch up and they informed me they were out of olives Rene and likely would not be getting any time soon. That was a disappointment. They did offer to send me a free gift instead and so while I will have to touch up my bike with nail polish I DO have some free nicer tires on their way to me! Which leads me to my next update of: the tires the bike comes with are rather low quality. They're cheap, basic road tires and they don't hold air very well.All in all, still pretty happy with the bike.

Well it may be super cute but I've gone on 3 rides and already had to spend $120.00 on repairs. New brake cable and an whole new free wheel (sprocket assembly). Disappointing and I would not recommend anyone buy this product.

This is a nice bike. I bought it for my wife who, at age 65, appreciates the step-through frame design. She says the bike is “pretty” and I have to agree. The coral color she chose is striking and cute.Initial set-up was fairly easy and all parts fit well. The usual handle bars, fenders and pedals needed to be installed but are not difficult. I was pleased to find real steel fenders which I remember from years past. The derailleur (gears) came perfectly adjusted but I did have to fuss a bit with the brakes and pads.A small collection of tools is included since everything is metric as expected. I can’t comment on the usability of the supplied “metric wrench” since I had my own tools which I prefer. I imagine the supplied tools will get the job done though.The steel frame is strong but heavier than an aluminum framed bike. In this case I prefer the steel frame because we added an electric hub motor and front wheel which is best used with a stronger steel frame. The hub motor makes climbing the many hills in our Nevada neighborhood much, much easier.The overall quality of the bike is good and my wife loves the "coral" color she chose. We’re very pleased with this purchase. Oh, I did buy and install a different seat immediately. A nice, wide, soft, gel seat. Sure feels better than the rather hard, narrow seat that is supplied with the bike. Ouch!

I've been looking for a bicycle that is retro inspired, practical, and shorter than average and I found this with the Critical Cycles Beaumont bicycle. I absolutely love it. First of all, it's way shorter than average but still has large wheels and an adult looking style. The seat and handle bars are both adjustable so if I needed it to be for a taller person it would be possible. I prefer to have my feet touching when I come to a stop and at 5'1 that is a hard bike to find. I ordered the smaller size. I also love the curved bar where you step through, makes it much easier to get on and off.The seat and handlebars are made of a faux leather material, or plastic that looks similiar to leather. They are firm but still comfortable. If someone was riding really far they made need a more comfortable seat but this is a very nice seat for coming with a smaller priced bike. The back "saddle" area has a tension thing, so you could put a book or something under there. I think I plan on adding a milk crate with a bungee cord. I already added a basket that I also purchased from amazon for my dog to ride in.My biggest con is the fact that the box did arrive damaged. I do think they tried to prevent the pokey area by the wheel from poking through the box with a plastic cap that has a flat side, but mine was floating in the bottom of the box so it either wasn't put on well or fell off. I'm not overly angry because my bike wasn't damaged but I could see where someone would be very frustrated with receiving a bike that wasn't in perfect condition. I also wasn't crazy about the fact that there was not pictures for the directions with installing. I know to most that you probably think it's common sense to put together a bike but I haven't so I put a few things on wrong and then had to take apart and adjust. Pictures would solve that problem, or even better would be if they had information on where a video to watch is located online. I tried youtube but didn't find this model.I think the quality is absolutely amazing. Many of the other reviewers were complaining but I'm actually shocked at the quality to price ratio. Typically finding a bike this cheap would mean it was purchased at Walmart or Target and everything would be less than par. This bike might not compare to 1000 dollar bikes but it is definitely worth it's price.Pictured is my 10 year old daughter that is very tall. She was test driving it for me but she has a 26 inch bike (taller than this)
