This is the best value one I found compared to the others. I use it for keto bread and in regular bread it helps the rise for wholemeal bread.

I had two problems with this wheat gluten product. The first was that the 3kg bag which I ordered had no expiry date on it but was instead placed in a 2nd outer bag. The outer bag had then the brand name on it (Suma), a product desciption and the required expiry date (one year). However, the inner bag had none. That leads me directly to the 2nd issue - a terrible old stale taste! I was to prepare homemade Saitan. That's what I needed the "vital wheat gluten" for. After I prepared a batch, let it simmer for 45 minutes, cool down etc, the result was inedible, revolting, disgusting! Not because of the texture as that was fine. However, there was a old smell, tasting like freshly ground cat litter mixed with dog food biscuits and chaulk. If you would mix these three components in equal parts, ground it and eat it, you'd have about the taste it leaves in the mouth. Now this could have been a really old batch or coming from suspect sources. How long was it stored and where? What else has been mixed into it? There is no way of kowing this as the original packaging was just a clear bag. I disposed of it in the waste bin meantime. I would not recommend buying "vital wheat gluten" for any purpose unless I knew exactly where it's coming from. Yet that seems to be impossible. So better stay clear of this stuff. Do not buy it!
