Beautiful and works perfectly!
Been married 42 years and using the same old red-handled rolling pin. Finally broke and my husband couldn't fix it ... again. I found another heavier one, but dough stuck to it, it was a mess and too heavy. So I ordered this one. Kinda like the three bears. This one is JUST RIGHT! Firstly, it is beautifully made of Wisconsin hard maple, the gorgeous wood from my native state - so it is just a bit sentimental. Secondly, it works perfectly! I used a butcher block oil on it and let it sit. Probably didn't need to, but I did on my old models. I made a quick chapati recipe to see how thin I could roll it. Hardly needed any extra flour to keep it from sticking - I mean maybe 1/2 tsp; maybe didn't need any. Smooth rolling, smooth dough. I am now in love with my rolling pin. Thank you so much!

Beautiful rolling pin
I can see why the manufacturers call themselves "Antiques for Tomorrow". This rolling pin is lovely work. Just the right smoothness and weight for rolling dough. It's long enough to work with dough without the edges pressing in where I don't want those divots (I used an old rolling pin with handles before, until I got tired of it not being long enough). I chose the black cherry wood because it sounded pretty, and it really is. And of course I like that it's made in the U.S. Was well-wrapped for shipping.

Perfection
I absolutely love this rolling pin! I can't believe I spent years using a traditional Handle style, but now find this French style pin makes rolling pastry crusts so much easier and more even! Love the quality and the beauty of the wood. I plan to pass this down to our next Generation, for happy baking. 🙂

I love it!
First I'll admit that watching the Great British Baking Show is my inspiration for this purchase. I also researched rolling pins (at length) and learned why my "American Style" one is "crappy" (per snobby bakers LOL) and the difference between this one and a straight dowel. Given that I'm a novice... the dowel would probably be better for making sure the thickness is more even. Given that I'm no spring chicken and have had shoulder surgery (and need the other one fixed) this seemed like my best option. In the short time since I got it I've made hot water crust pastry a couple of times and bread rolls (lemon/poppyseed and cranberry/orange) twice and I absolutely love it. It's beautiful! I love the look and feel of wood and have been slowly weeding out the plastic from my kitchen. So this rolling pin makes my pioneer-woman wannabe heart happy. My only complaint would be that I have a DINKY kitchen with seriously limited space and so rolling out a nice rectangle for cinnamon rolls is a struggle with the size of this pin. But that's MY problem and not at all the fault of this pin. I love my new French Rolling Pin!!!!! NOTE... some of the reviews talk about it not being smooth enough. It's perfectly smooth... but not GLOSSY... and there is a reason for that! You want it to grip your dough a wee bit not slide over the top if it. (I did a BUNCH of research before my purchase!!!) So please ignore the ratings and comments of folks who are used to the American Style pins that have that perfectly smooth finish. The French know what they're doing when it comes to baking! Trust that this is done perfectly!

Are all you rolling pins slightly rough?
I love my new rolling pin this is my second. I would give this French rolling pin higher marks but it came to me a little bit on the Rough Side smooth but not as smooth as my first French rolling pin. It was a little bit sticky to clean and use and there is a knot in one spot I'm watching closely because I don't while a beautiful mark I hope it doesn't become a rough spot or a whole that catches debris. I did buy a very fine piece of sandpaper but I have not given that the super smooth finish yet.

Beautiful, well made rolling pin.
I bought the Maple tapered rolling pin. It is a beautiful work of "art" -- the craftsmanship is apparent at first glance. The pride in the workmanship was evident by the way it was shipped -- very carefully wrapped. This is replacing an 'american' style rolling pin with handles -- my first rolling pin that I've had for about 50 years. It's still in good shape but I decided to treat myself and 'upgrade' to the french tapered style rolling pin. I highly recommend buying from Antiques of Tomorrow -- beautiful item. Made in USA :-) You won't be disappointed.

Mixed results
I bought two of these. On tapered and one straight. The tapered roller came beautifully finished and perfectly smooth. The straight roller came half sanded and unfinished. Disappointing.
