The Godfather of Soul indeed. Loved this release. Whatever you may think about the man or his life outside music, how much poorer our world would be without his musical genius. Forget the King of Pop, who made one pretty decent album ("Thriller") and could dance really well, so never deserved this title, but bring on the Godfather of Soul and listen to this album and be convinced that his place in music history is well earned.I put it on recently and my kids, 11,8 and 2 heard his music for the first time and collectively got their funk on and danced their hearts out, indeed, the man's got soul!!!Since then when I'm in the car with them, one of them often asks "papa, can you put the man on who screams so well?"And of course I do ...

Great sounds from a great artist - everyone should own some James Brown

The music and the man speaks for itself - top drawer!! Though I do have one request/query, why isn't there an album which was released in 1985 called Dead on the Heavy Funk - 74-76 not on the market? I remember purchasing it for the first time on cassette, played it to death (warped) and am unable to locate the same either on vinyl or CD since. Please, please, please re-release it?Many thanks.

Almost every song here is worth 5* in its own right, making the album as a whole easily worth 5.Brilliant - and if you even have a passing interest in Rap, you'll immediately recognise that this collection of songs is where a huge proportion of the samples come from.

A brilliant collection of hits by the godfather of Soul. Every single track is an absolute classic and could not be bettered. There is nothing else to be said about James Brown and the musicians he surrounded himself with.
