Updated review: still going strong after a year | Great water quality. Worth the price.
Updated Nov 11, 2025 After one year, we still haven't gotten the warning to change filter. We are two persons+2 cats with 3.6L/123oz of water fountain tank that needs to be changed every 10 - 15 days and I also cook and drink a lot. The machine still works perfectly fine. There's no leakage or malfunction occurred at all. Couldn't recommend this enough! ------------ Old review Background before buying APEC I'm familiar with RO water and prefer it over anything else. I also used RO filter in Thailand and when I moved to USA I thought the water quality would be better so I wasn't looking for RO filter. I used tap water for cooking and drinking by filtering with Brita before but I personally hated it because there's still chlorine smell and honestly you can't trust water quality these days because there's a lot of contamination in it so Ineeded better filtration. Water quality It's RO so quality is as good as the bottled water. No chlorine smell. Water has taste but it has no sharp feeling when drinking. If you're worried that RO will get rid of minerals in the water, to be honest, you can get minerals from somewhere else - cooking, supplemental pills etc. Having access to non contaminated water is my priority. Filtration system When you use up one cycle it takes 90 seconds to filter new cycle in it. It doesn't take long at all. The noise can be high but it never really bothers me as it's a quick process. The vdo I attached is of when it's filtering new tank. Suitable for 2 people with small animals. We are a couple and have 2 cats with big tank of water fountain. I also cook a lot. Bigger household should consider under the sink installation instead. We use tap water, it's NOT suitable for well water. Design is modern with decent materials. It's convenient especially those living in an apartment where you're not allowed to drill.

Try something else
I reached out to customer support after owning the unit for a year, as I noticed it was having trouble with water flow. Despite recently replacing the filter, water continued to trickle out very slowly, and sometimes the pump would make noise without any water actually coming out. On top of that, the machine would occasionally dispense water on its own, without being prompted. I even sent a video to customer support, but they claimed the unit was functioning as designed. For a $250 water filter, I would expect more reliable water flow and better control over the dispensing. While I can’t speak to the exact quality of the filtered water (since I don’t have testing tools), both my partner and I find the water tastes fine—definitely better than our city water. However, the ongoing water flow issue and the random dispensing are major concerns. New review 1/8/25: Our unit has officially failed it no longer dispenses properly. Sometimes you get 4 ounces of water sometimes you get 2 ounces of water with the 8 ounce setting. The pump will continue to make sounds as if it’s trying to pump out water, but no water dispenses. Old review below: If you haven’t purchased this unit yet, I would recommend trying other systems first. I was already on the fence before buying this product. I wish I had spent the money elsewhere.

Countertop RO has small usable reservior
I purchased the countertop RO machine because I did not want to alter the plumbing in my house and the key feature is the hot water feature. My wife wanted this to help with making baby formula late at night. Likes: modern/sleek appearance, single filter, easy set up and having the TDS display is nice. Dislikes: to me the water tastes metallic. Certainly not as good as some of the better bottled waters available. My wife did not notice the metallic taste so may just be me. By far the biggest downfall is the size of the post-filtered water reservoir. For every 12oz glass of water 4oz is discharged to a small partition in the reservoir. What is misleading is the "max fill line" is several inches above this partition. If you fill to this line, you're overflowing into the discharged water side so you're effectively mixing the "wastewater" back in with the water that's running through the machine. Keep in mind the wastewater reservoir is small - you will need to empty the full reservoir several times a day with a family of 3. This was not ideal for us due to the size of the machine - sliding it in and out from under the cabinets became a chore. The flow rate was also an issue for us when making hot water for baby formula. In the end we stopped using this because of the wait. The screaming baby does not care if the water is room temp or heated. Giving this 3 stars because of the appearance, easy set up and no plumbing modifications. If you are truly interested in a RO system, I would look at under the counter options to eliminate the need to empty the wastewater reservoir.

My friends tall me
I purchased this for my parents. They live in an apartment and are not allowed to install an under sink water system. So far it works great and we all love it so so much! It is very compact, fits the kitchen counter perfectly, and the quality looks good too. It is so easy to use, just add the tap water in the pitcher, then press one button, and filtered water will come out! You can choose room temperature or hot water for coffee or tea. And the most important part is the water tastes great! One added benefit for us is that since it is portable, we can take it with us on our camping trips! Strongly recommend this system to anyone that has the needs like us.

I still use this after 1.5 yrs
I enjoyed this product but tends to leak. I bought this over a year and a half ago. The filter lasts a long time, but you must use a water/vinegar mixture weekly to keep the hard-water from clogging and causing leaking in the tank. You will need to empty and refill daily which is truly a pain because the water tank is small. On the up side, instant hot water for tea. As tech improves I would suggest another product, maybe a sink option so that you can avoid walking this tank and cleaning this tank constantly. Ease of use Low. Safety High. Value was good at time of purchase but now I suggest investing in sink based H20 reverse osmosis system.
