Perfect for a Novice!
This was EXACTLY what I needed!I have never created, repaired, or troubleshooted ethernet cables/jacks/setups before in my life... until about 2 hours ago.I bought this kit because to use on a home that is very wired with ethernet RJ45 keystone jacks. There is an etherenet jack in almost every room! There is minimal labeling or documentation to identify which jack and wire at the main panel goes to a specific room in the house.Using the ethernet cable tester in this kit I was able to find out which port at the panel went to the "office" room in the home. It also showed me that there was an issue where wire #5 of the setup was not showing continuity. It turns out that wire #5 of the panel keystone jack was not punched down far enough. The punch tool on this kit did the job perfectly! Then I moved on to fixing 2 cat5 cables that had connectors with broken tabs causing the cables to fall out of ports very easily. This kit to the rescue! The crimp tool and the wire cutting tools worked flawlessly!I not only fixed all 4 connectors of the two cables, I ALSO split the two 6 foot cables into a total of four 3 foot cables (I bought extra connectors separately). The cables were back in action with excess slop removed and now 2 additional cables ready for service when I continue to find and match up the remaining 6 main panel ports with the various rooms in the house. This kit is not something I think a professional would use as the cable tester is a little simple and seems a little cheap, but still works fine. The quality of the other tools seemed OK but again I think this is for the home DIY person who has some repairs to perform rather then a professional needing to log hours daily or weekly doing cable work/repairs.Again I have never used anything like this in the past. After a little youtubing and googling I had enough knowledge to do everything I needed and I have the tools to fix cords and continue identifying the port panel jack and room jack pairs :)

Very nice set
The network cable tester kit I received consisted of a nice zippered case with four tools inside. The tools were all held in place by stretchy bands, a bag containing three RJ45 crimp connectors, and some instructions. The tools consisted of a very handy and compact multi conductor cable stripper/cutter. Perfect for CAT5 or video cabling and more. A cable tester for RJ45 + RJ11 cables. The tester requires one 9V battery to operate. It consists of two devices, a sender and a receiver or loop-back. This one is nice because it lets you see the individual wires testing in either a fast or slow cycle. Allowing you to troubleshoot connectivity at either cable end, not just at the transmitter. Numbered LED's on each unit cycle through 1-8 and G. The crimping tool is for use with 8P8C and 6P6C connections such as network and phone cabling. A very cool KD-1 punch down tool is the last in the set. It features a small hook that fold out from the handle on one side to facilitate removing single conductors from a connector to allow re punching of that one conductor. On the opposite side of the tool from the hook there is a small straight screw driver blade that folds out. Handy for separating and guiding wires into position in tight spaces. I would have been more impressed had the instructions were not just for this kit but, possibly for multiple devices beside this tool kit. I could not really understand their wording and references to some things. If you know what you are doing with these tools, you will never need them. Only thing to say on that. They do include diagrams for T568A and T568B conductor numbering and for the crimp connectors. That is all you need anyway, because I forget sometimes myself. That makes them handy to keep in the kit for reference alone.I am very pleased with the quality and the versatility of all of these tools. The crimping tool is solid, nice red and black dense rubber grips. Feels good in the hand and makes solid connections easy. The cutter is pocket size and very sweet to use. It clips on and spins around the cable to strip the outer insulation cleanly. and then allows small wires to be stripped or cut nice and quick. I would recommend this to anyone as a great value, and a quality product! This one is going in my cabling tool bag immediately!

There's better out there
The crimper itself is average but the plastic RJ45 connections are garbage. A majority of them didn't work for me and I had to go to Home Depot to purchase replacements. The most useful tool is the yellow cutter which lets you cut the plastic protector off the exterior of the cable. The tester is useful but the instructions are terrible, I feel my dog could have written better explanations of the codes. I can't believe someone got paid to write that useless piece of paper.

Nice Kit
I was a little skeptical at first because when I purchased this I was under the impression I would be getting some cheap crimping kit. This exceeded all of my expectations! Having the wire tester saved me hours of extra work. The crimper works perfect every time and getting 50 male RJ45 ends was a huge bonus. The punch down tool I thought was cheap but it is probably the best part of the kit. It is so sharp for the cable stripping tool that you need to gingerly pass the tool almost once so that you do not catch any part of the network cable interior wires. Trust me, my old tools were not this precise and a warning to first timers, you will be practicing several times with this tool. All cables are outputting at the max transmission rate and the network seems to run all device access with ease.Great kit for a small business and the weekend cabling warrior!
