Dancing Jax Paperback – 2 Feb. 2012

If could sit and talk with any three people from history, they would be da Vinci, Charles Dickens and Robin Jarvis. He has inspired me more than any other author ever has, and I am a complete bibliophile. I read his books when I was younger and have re-read them over and over. His writing was sorely missed after Deathscent. I was so overly excited when I found recently that he had newer works that I had not read. This book did not disappoint. The same gritty realism in the character's personalities, an original and unique plot that somehow also feels part of a greater mythological cannon, but this time with a twist of unpretentious, well grounded understanding of contemporary youth culture make this a book which is going straight on my top shelf. Which, I should probably clarify, isn't the erotica section, but is reserved for my favorite authors, such as Walter Moers, Brent Weeks, Ursula Le'Guin and Patrick Rothfuss.Every piece by Jarvis is a master piece.

this book is not what you think at first i was not to sure of it ,its dark in places, but as the back of the book said you can;t put it down i tried 2 or 3 times you just have to know what is going to happen so when it came to the end i had to have book 2

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, not my normal sort of reading material. Plot believable in a far fetched sort of way. The ending was a bit disappointing, don't think that I will plough through part two if it materialises.

This book is possibly one of the best I have ever read. The storyline is great, the writing is epic and overall it is really good. I cannot wait for the third one to be released

I discovered this book whilst looking for news on other trilogies from Robin Jarvis so I though I'd give it a go. The concept behind the book is brilliant and the plot is well thought out with plenty to twists and turns. I started reading Robin Jarvis when I was a teenager and I am now 28 and his books cans still keep me occupied

I read the reports mouse series and wyrd museum books as a child and its great to see the return of Robin Jarvis. I was hooked from the beginning. A brilliant plot with great characters. Can't wait to read the sequel!

Interesting book with plenty of twist and turns with a hint of realism, another great from Robin Jarvis. This author never disappoints. A gripping book which is hard to put down, and leaves you wanting for more!!

Dancing Jax ist eines dieser Bücher, die, finde ich, eine ganz besondere Ausstrahlung haben.Zum Inhalt: Einige Bücher sind schädlich, sogar gefährlich. Sie verdrehen einem den Kopf und geben den dunkelsten Seiten der menschlichen Seele Nahrung. Sie sollten verbannt oder vernichtet werden. Diese Geschichte handelt von solch einem Buch. Ich hoffe, es gibt noch genug von euch da draußen, die das hier lesen und mir glauben und sich zur Wehr setzen können – bevor es zu spät ist.Ein altertümlich wirkendes und zunächst harmlos erscheinendes Buch taucht in einer englischen Kleinstadt auf und ergreift Besitz von seinen Lesern. Immer mehr Menschen werden von dem Buch befallen und zu willenlosen Charakteren der Geschichte. Der diabolische Plan des Autors scheint aufzugehen.Meine Meinung (Achtung, könnte Spoiler enthalten!): Dancing Jax ist ein tolles Buch. Es ist etwas, was ich in der Art zuvor nicht erzählt habe und ein Buch, bei dem man Anfangs eigentlich nicht an Grauen denken würden. Ehe du es dich versiehst, reißt der Autor dich mit in den Strom seiner Geschichte und baut langsam einen Spannungsbogen auf. Es ist eine Trilogie, und so liest sich auch der erste Teil. Wir lernen Charaktere kennen, lernen sie lieben, manchmal verlieren wir sie wieder. Robin Jarvis ist hierbei erbarmungslos - keiner wird geschont oder betüddelt.Das gibt dem Buch aber auch einen gewissen Charme - man weiß einfach, dass das hier keine Liebesgeschichte ist, sondern ein Buch mit knallharten Prioritäten.Sobald der Ismus die Macht übernimmt wird er sehr geschäftig und es bleibt kein Moment aus, wo man sich nicht fragt, ob es denn nicht noch irgendwen gibt, der diesem Buch etwas entgegen zu setzen hat, da es sich wie im Lauffeuer verbreitet und die Menschen nach und nach übernimmt. Was hat der Ismus vor? Was hat es mit dem Buch auf sich? - Ein Handlungsstrang, mit dem wir einen der Hauptcharaktere durch das Buch folgen und dem entgegen fiebern, was sein kann und was sein wird.Die Stellen über die Charaktere und das Königreich des Buches "Dancing Jacks" waren wundervoll beschrieben und sehr lyrisch. Das ganze war sehr fantasievoll geschrieben und ehrlich gesagt wünsche ich mir sogar ein bisschen, das "Originalbuch" lesen zu können, nicht nur die Geschichte, die wir in unserer heutigen Zeit verfolgen können.Ich hätte es jedenfalls sofort verschlungen. In der Realität habe ich dieses Buch, doch auch mit diesem Buch begnüge ich mich gerne.Wer auf Fantasy steht, aber auch ein bisschen Grausamkeit und gerne gute Storys liebt - der könnte mit diesem Buch auf seine Kosten kommen...

I discovered Robin Jarvis years ago, I read the Whitby Witches when I was 11, (scared, but really enjoyed it!), then someone lent me the Deptford and Whitby Trilogies, and I loved them. I am now 24 but still think his books are wonderfull.To me Dancing Jax is very different from his earlier novels, but just as good. It's not the most frightening read in the world (thank god!), but there is a fair amount of tension, and at times I did find myself wondering whether I'd be brave enough to turn the light out at night. Just the right amount of creepiness to give you that exciting thrill without leaving you too terrified.I like the way the story is built up, and the "intrusion" of the Dancing Jacks story within the book. The characters are fun, and the story is well-paced and exciting.Can't wait to read the next part!

diese Erkenntnis trifft für dieses Buch in doppelter Hinsicht zu!Die Geschichte um den Okkultisten Austerly Fellows ist ein wunderbarer Mix aus Stephen King und einer Kindheitserinnerung an die Gruselcomics, wie Gespenster Geschichten und Creepshow.Der Handlungsstrang beginnt im Hier und Jetzt. Das Buch ist voll mit aktuellen Themen und (zumindest die englische Version) hat eine sehr lockere, junge Sprache.Es geht um Schule, Alltag und um die kaputte Gesellschaft. Mit Robert Jarvis ist für mich ein neuer Autor in Erscheinung getreten, der ähnlich wie Stephen King Alltagsszenen derartig gut und dicht beschreiben kann, dass diese spannend zu lesen sind, obwohl wenig passiert.Wobei dies nicht bedeuten soll, dass hier auf vielen Seiten nur Langeweile Hof hält. Die Action kommt ziemlich schnell in Fahrt und die Beschreibung des alten Hauses, in dem die ganze Story ihren Anfang nimmt ist wirklich gruselig geglückt.Fazit: Endlich mal wieder eine Geschichte, die erfrischend anders ist als alles was man sonst zu lesen in die Hand bekommt. Toll geschrieben. Als reines Kinder- und Jugendbuch würde ich Dancing Jax nicht bezeichnen, auch wenn es oft im Buchhandel in dieser Sparte einsortiert ist. Zum einen steckt einiges an Gesellschaftskritik zwischen den Seiten, die sich jüngeren Lesern sicher nicht so entfaltet wie älteren, zum andern gibt es doch ein paar Momente an denen auch Liebhaber von Grusel- und Horrorromanen ihre Freude haben sollten.Ein kunterbunter Mix aus Fantasy, Horror und dem Hier und Jetzt.Der erste Band macht Lust auf mehr, bleibt zu hoffen, dass der Autor im weiteren Verlauf der Story die Geschwindigkeit und die Spannung so hoch wie im ersten Band halten kann.Das Englisch des Buches ist fordernd und manches ist im "Slang" geschrieben - man kommt aber nach ein paar Seiten gut in den Sprachstil rein!

Dancing Jax pulls you in and doesn't free you until the last page. Martin Baxter a maths teacher and sci fi fanatic is pulled into a real life mystery when most everyone in town is under the spell of a sinister book. When a former pupil of his warns him that the Dancing Jax book is evil he his skeptical until someone close to him is drawn into the madness. This series is a new favorite. Looking forward to the second book in the series. I will also be checking out other books by this talented author.

One day at the library my son borrowed Dancing Jax. All 4 (entire family) of us thought it sounded interesting. He read it in about 2 weeks. He kept telling me I needed to read it. After finishing the series I was reading, I started on it. It took me 5 days to read both Dancing Jax and Freax and Rejex. Now July 3rd can't come soon enough! Looking forward to Fighting Pax. It is a great concept for a story. I was wondering how an entire population could identify with a character and fit into the kingdom of the dawn prince. I had to wait for the second book to find out. What will we find out in the third book?

This book was really a frightening read but I just couldn't put it down. Took a little breather to digest it and starting the second book because I have to know the outcome. Got it for my teens but my curiosity got the best of me and hooked myself. Well written. You start wondering if this book is beginning to control you like the book in the story.
