Ultra Hardware 35593 Box of 2 4in Double Acting Spring Hinge-Steel Base-Black Finish

I initially wanted to give these hinges a 3 or 4 star rating because of how my installation started out. But after some adjustment these have come up to a 5 star for sure.I replaced a door going to our basement with a gate. I wanted these hinges primarily to make the gate self-closing but also so the gate could operate in both directions. Upon initial installation the gate sagged pretty badly. And my gate is very light.What I ultimately needed to do was increase tension on both sides of the hinge to keep everything square. The end result is a gate that closes with a bit more force than I would have liked but I also realize my gate is probably on the low-end of weight for these hinges. So ultimately these hinges work great with proper amounts of tension on them.

Received black hinges and installed. Adjusted properly and they work great. These hinges were a replacement for Sheutsan hinges.-- Great hinges --

Fairly good hinges had to load them pretty heavy to get the door to return to center

We have one hing that won't tighten so the gate just hangs. The other hing is amazing and has tightened and stayed tight. But I made a pallet gate so it just hangs with only one working hing

nice strong hinge, good finish to paint, would definetly recommend. we used with rough sawn lumber for a door behind bar, worked great.

I'll admit, this is the first time I've ever used a double spring hinge so maybe I should have gotten a 5-6" hinge set instead of this 4", but it didn't turn out quite like I had hoped. As others have said, these hinges struggle with weight. I used this on a dog house door (really just trimmed out 1/2" plywood) and I assumed because of the small size (1' wide by 2' tall) and weight (maybe 5-10lbs) of the door they would work fine. Originally I had these set to the lowest spring tension because I wanted the door to be easy for my dogs to open. With the spring set that loose, the top of the door sagged inward hitting the door jamb and prevented it from opening. After moving up the tension several notches (I would say it's close to being maxed out without breaking the spring), I got it to open correctly, but now it's so tight that it's almost too difficult for my dogs to push open. Since it worked so poorly for my small door have a hard time envisioning this working correctly on a larger set of saloon doors or gate.

Purchased this item in February for our local animal shelter. Didn't have the opportunity to install them until this weekend; 2 of the hinges work great, the spring seems to not work correctly in the other 2. Apparently I will have to purchase these again since we weren't able to get them installed prior to the time frame allowed for returns, even though the item is defective. The work done at the shelter is done on a volunteer basis when someone has time and this was the first opportunity to have it completed. Guess it is our loss, but I would beware of faulty products and make sure you are aware of the return policy! An added note-I did re-order a set only because the others are installed and I can't locate them anywhere else for this price. One of the sets works great!

These are wonderful! We replaced a pair of old "saloon" doors that were on the pantry in our new house. I added these to an old screen door that was upcycled. We had a friend help install the door and it hasn't needed any adjusting since it was set up. They do make noise so don't expect to sneak into the pantry for a late night snack... but we love the sound. It reminds me of those old back porch screen doors on a hot summer day. We get a lot of compliments on the door and hinges.
