Frommer's Maine Coast (Complete Guide) Review: Invaluable resource - We took a trip to Maine this fall and this book was invaluable. It covered the Maine coast from south to north which was the way we were going. The book was broken up by regions and there were tips on attractions, places to stay and eat, and info on out of the way places we never would have known about if we’d tried to plan our trip online. It even had information about two side trips which we were unable to make due to time constraints — the Maine Woods and Down East. The book also included a pull-out map which was very useful. I highly recommend this book if you’re planning a trip to the Maine coast! Review: BEST book for Maine, IMHO - We have made more than a few trips to Maine, so I thought I really knew that wonderful state, especially the coast. So I hesitated to buy yet another guidebook even though I needed up to date information fort this summer. My good friend recommended this new Frommer's Maine Coast so I decided to go for it and am so glad I did. Wow, what a great book! Full of interesting history, terrific places to visit and to stay and to eat.. And I especially liked the pull-out map--it is really clear and easy to use. This book is going to be in my hand all the way . The pages, of course, will be well-stained with butter from those fabulous Maine lobsters!

Gave as a gift---she LOVED it
My friend Lisa was complaining about trying to plan a trip online, so I bought her this book. She just came back and is raving about how helpful the book was. She said that the book was a lifesaver, helping them create a logical plan for their trip and leading her to hidden gems (restaurants, tours, inns) that they didn't find in their online research. And apparently her phone died, so the pull-out map was super helpful. I always travel with Frommer's and am glad to hear that this one lives up to the usual high standards

Great guide to Maine.
This book is very nicely laid out and is greatly helping in the planning of our trip to Maine. Easy to reference the towns and areas we want to explore and good recommendations for hotels and restaurants and things to do in each area.

Very good information, but...
the print is tiny and there are no photographs to draw you into where you should go.

The most up-to-date helpful guide I could find. Really great!
And that goes for web info, too. I was planning this trip only on the web but I kept getting outdated wrong info. Then I turned to other guidebooks and finally got this one, which is the best BY FAR. Not only is it TOTALLY current, it has a point of view. The author gives start ratings to the places that are worth your while and explains why some others might only be of interest to people with certain types of interests. He explains really well how to get around, the pros and cons of each area and gives really useful itineraries at the start of the book. Plus, you can see, from the writing, how much the author loves his home state and that’s infectious—I enjoyed reading the book and found that it never steered me wrong once I got to Maine. This book will make your trip more fun. Get it!

Complete ease for traveling
I own the guide from 2005 and wanted the new update. I have used other guides and this is far superior. The information is so detailed and complete. Besides where to stay and eat, the general information really gives a feel for things to see and do. The continuous movement up the coast makes it very easy to plan my trip. The pull-out map is a bonus.
