Obituary are simply the greatest Death Metal band in history. Roadrunner recording artist all the way from Tampa, Florida! John Tardy's vocals ofcourse scare and (possibly and believably) scar their fans and listeners, RR have made a good choice signing these, Death Metal GODS!Let's talk about the songs and Obituary's history, hmmm??Obituary went as far back as 1984 when John and Donald Tardy were jamming with their friends, Trevor Peres and Allen West, slashing their teeth in all clubs and studios that were available in Tampa. Then a couple years later, Obituary saw their persistence pay with their debut, genre-defining, SLOWLY WE ROT. SLOWLY WE ROT was released in 1989. It's fair to say that the band have used alot of time working on this, the songs are official stand-outs, with the following album opener "Internal Bleeding" you know these guys were as sick as being ripped open with your organs torn out. "Godly Beings,"Til Death," the tilte track and "Suffocation" (inspiration for that other death metal band from Long Island!) all were outstanding death songs.Other songs like "Words of Evil" and "Intoxicated" were average but were good-to-listen-to-over-and-over songs.(Pretty complex phrase, aint it?) Two other songs "Bloodsoaked" and the album closer "Stinkupuss" are brilliant songs, in "Bloodsoaked" Trevor Peres takes on an amazing guitar solo, good arrangements on all songs.CAUSE OF DEATH is the band's best album and was released in 1990. The band's career had started and Frank Watkins had been moved into the band as a permanent bassist and guitar-shredder James Murphy had temporarily stepped in for a soon-to-return Allen West, "Infected" has a long intro...then BOOM! John Tardy comes in shooting, the album started very nicely from my perspective, "Body Bag," "Circle Of The Tyrants" and the title track are all great stand-outs and good arrangements aswell."Memories Remain" and the album closer "Turned Inside Out" are fantastic songs with great riffs and Trevor Peres takes on multiple solos on these. Overall, SLOWLY WE ROT/CAUSE OF DEATH are very consistently inspiring for other RR death metal bands such as GORGUTS and SUFFOCATION, perfect for inclusion in RR's 2 From The Vault series. No one has matched Obituary's pace, but, now, Obituary are back in the studio in January to record their new CD, coming 2005, can't wait.So, Obituary have been revived after their confession of extinction in 2001.
