The cultural phenomenon that is the Wu-Tang cannot accurately be described without referencing one of the pillars in the Clan's discography; Chef Raekwon's Only Built 4 Cuban Linx remains firmly planted as one of the defining triumphs in their artistic legacy. Often referred to as "The Purple Tape", it has been cited by many as the greatest Wu-Tang solo project to date and a remains a bullet point in any discussion involving the greatest "Cocaine Rap" or "Street Hop" albums of all time. Raekwon's narrative plays out like a movie script from the violent, drug fueled underbelly of New York City's criminal landscape, intricately woven over instrumentals from legendary mastermind The RZA. While the album produced a string of successful singles, such as Ice Cream , Incarcerated Scarfaces , and Criminology , like all classic cinema, it was intentionally engineered to be appreciated in one sitting, played from beginning to end. In continuing with it's proud tradition of honouring historically significant hip hop albums, Get On Down presents Only Built 4 Cuban Linx for the first time ever as a double LP, pressed on translucent purple vinyl, housed in a high density resealable poly bag. This edition also features the previously CD-only bonus track North Star (Jewels) , and the entire album boasts completely enhanced and painstakingly remastered audio.

Rae monopolised Rza's best beats
Arguably the best production of any Wu Album (perhaps only bettered by Liquid...), it's the archetypal 'tales of the street' LP. Filled to the brim with killer tracks and even some revolutionary ones (Glaciers of Ice?). Uniquely combines radio and underground appeal. Raekwon and Ghostface's rapping style is the true heir to original Hip-Hop in that the Medium is the message. These are people who have lived this, unlike Kanye West & friends; their use of language to paint a picture is without parallel Like a painting by Manet or a novel by Joyce, Rae and Ghost talk about their drug dealing past with no remorse, sentiment or glorification but paint a vivid picture. Like Manet, they chronicled the life of the city they knew like no-one before them and it is similarly shocking to contemporaries. But like all the best Wu work this is a team effort. The nion is greater than the sum of it's parts.

Must own cd , the lyrical content along with the production from the rza is outstanding.But what else would anyone expect from the wu. Too many classics to name.

Reakwon ist an sich ein sehr talentierter Rapper, jedoch finde ich ihn zusammen mit dem Rest des Wu-Tang-Clans besser, als er als Solokünstler ist.
