What an inventive way to show a story. I found this picture book written by Emil Sher, illustrated by Qin Leng, to be clever and delightful. At first, I didn't like the lack of communication between the parent and child but then I realized there was more to the story when I really took in the illustrations.I had to read it twice to take in everything that was really going on and I enjoyed each time even more.Published by Groundwood Books, Anansi Press.#emotion #summercamp #leavingishard #PB

The ONLY problem I have with this sweet, loving book about a brown boy and his white single mom preparing for sleepaway camp is a couple of kludgey midsentence text breaks between the Post-Its they use to communicate. Literally. Everything else is PERFECT.And Qin Leng's art, as usual, is lyrical and homey at the same time.
