Get these, some strikers, and paracord to keep around!
I bought these after watching the first season of "Alone," but forgot I live in the suburbs now. Still, they're great ferro rods, and produce a lot of spark for very little strike. I keep one of these with a striker in the kitchen so I can still start our gas stove if the power goes out. If you need good kindling, I would recommend soaking some cotton balls in Vaseline, puffing them up a bit, and using this to light them. Half of one cotton ball will burn for a couple minutes, they're water resistant, and you can use a bit of the Vaseline to keep your ferro rod from rusting.

Good product but just under 3/8"
Happy about the price and I can make these work for homemade ferro rod handles but these are just slightly under 3/8". They are slightly small than 3/8" drilled holes while other ferro rods I have purchased from other companies are snug when fitting. These are not snug and when I measured to the other rods, they are just a bit smaller. Still a good product and I can make them work.

Great way to put weld spots in wifey kitchen sink!
After black is scraped off knife and rod, it throws sparks a good 3 feet! These hold and make a very hot spark that burns for a good while to get any flamables to burn. Even gas fumes! So be careful kidders! These are the perfect size for old, cold fingers to use. If dropped they can be seen like large leeroy! Lol the hole takes a cord to dangle or grab. My charcoal retort loves them thar sparks!

Works
Works like it should can’t beat them for the price. It would be a great ferro rod for a camping pack, a vehicle pack or a “BOB”! I want to try the half inch one too see if it throws better sparks. Would definitely buy again!

I installed a wood handle. The ferro rod works well with the back of a sheath knife.

Came in fast
These seems to spark very well. Husband is putting on handles. We've used the back of old hack saw blades as the striker and it works very well.
