Can this be used to connect a server to a chassis? The picture shows no, but why?

Unfortunately our 8644 AOC does not support such applications.

I am trying to use it for my 12g sas3 storage jbod. however, description shows it is 6g. isn't sas3 supposed to be 12g?

If your question is regarding the SFF-8644 to Mini SAS SFF-8088 cable, 1 end has a 12gb terminal and the other is a 6gb terminal. I'm using it to connect my 6gb JBOD cabinet to my 12gb RAID controller. My understanding is that the SFF-8088 terminal is 6gb only. If you want 12gb to 12gb you'll want the cable with 2 - SFF-8644 terminals.
