Well worth it!
Nearly a decade ago, I sunk about $3,000 into a dual boiler E61 espresso machine that fills from an internal water tank. Not wanting to rack up a lot of down time and expense for repairs, I needed a cost-effective way to prevent limescale from attacking the boilers and other parts of my equipment. We use BWT water filtration jugs to reduce the high mineral content of our well water for drinking. Like the BWT jugs, these ‘Bestsave’ pads remove limescale minerals and ‘sweeten’ the water with trace amounts of magnesium. The result is water that is close to neutral pH, with sufficient mineral content for good coffee extraction and not much production of limescale in the machine. We replace the pad every six to eight weeks. It’s money well spent to minimize scale and corrosion, keep our espresso machine running strong and to optimize the quality of the shots it delivers. It’s the next best thing to a plumbed-in machine with an in-line filtration system.

If you have hard water and love your espresso machine
I use these in the reservoir of my espresso machine to keep the calcium/limescale for plugging up the tiny ports to the espresso head. Replace about every 2 months and so far they've worked perfectly.

Works great. Calculate your water hardness
Medium size is good for 100 liters at 10 dKh (per BWT’s website). Use some water test strips and an online converter (dKh to ppm perhaps) to figure out how often you have to change this. For me, 6 months. Another tip, try to maximize the time the water is in contact with the filter. For example, top up the reservoir when you go to bed if you will have coffee when you wake up. That way the water sits with the filter for 8 hours. If you just add water and run it, the filter has no time to absorb. My espresso machine heats/steams as well as it did day one, so it seems to work as far as I can tell.

It works.
This really helps avoid mineral lines in the tank. I change it monthly.

Seems to Work Well and Does Not Leave Ant Residue in Tank
Lassted almost an additional 2 weeks over the 2 month recommended expiration date and seems to have worked very effeciently . There was no residue in the tank and seems to be removing impurities. Will have to see how its bi,omthly replacements works over the next year. At $20 each they are not inexpensive. But so far I am satisfied with the product.

May see dark carbon flecks in your water
I'm presuming this does what it says (since I don't test my water) but it did lose dark flecks of activated carbon into my espresso machine's water bin after 2 months of use (1 cup per day). Then it did the same thing at the beginning with my next filter, at which point I realized that you have to rinse it out before initial use. My fault for not reading the directions. Evidently they are tasteless and harmless to the espresso machine, but I'll make sure to rinse it first and not use for more than 2 months to try and avoid them.

Gute Pads
