Unsure of it's accuracy.
I got this to do exactly what it is advertised as doing so.Unfortunately I have no way of knowing whether the accuracy is spot on or not, what I did do it measure different points and see if they gave the same reading, one would assume that all the paint on any given device would be identical all around, so far so good, that is truly the only way I would suggest to use this device. My local mechanic thought it was a great ideal, although he had personally never used one previously, but he did say he was interested in getting one himself for when they went to the car auctions to buy new vehicles. The device itself came in a nice box and was presented well, safely protected within a foam surroundings. It feels quite robust and well made with the buttons feel responsive to touch and not so spongy that you have to really push on them to make them work. The manual was quite informative and I would recommend the user to read it, it even came with a pair of aaa batteries, so no need to be rummaging around trying to find some batteries to get it to work.Would I recommend this product, it really is hard to say, it is probably not for your average user, it could be super handy and save you a fortune, if your out buying a second hand vehicle, as it could save you from buying something only to find out later that is had been in an accident and been patched up.Therefore it could be a very handy thing to have, or it could be another gadget for your collection, only your personal needs would render this a must buy or not, me I'm just having fun with it at he moment.

As a quick gauge provides a decent option and portability is in its favour
The media could not be loaded. This little tool is quite nifty, super portable and comes packaged and presented in a decent little box. What you get inside is the digital thickness meter, pair of AAA (to get you started), set of thickness gauges, some plastic and metal discs and a set of instructions. The unit itself is lightweight, even with the batteries, the large digital display is more than adequate to note down the readings and cycle through the various modes. The outer shell has blue strips either side which I initially thought may have been rubberised for grip but is tough plastic, similar ins construction to the main body shell. The buttons of which there are five are a soft rubber feel and easy to depress. The detection part of the unit is directly beneath and on a soft spring-loaded mechanism, so when you place the detector against the surface you want to test the thickness of its not going to scratch (provided you don't slide the unit about on the material once you make contact).I tested this on a number of items from car paint, painted gate to an indoor exercise bike. The detection I must say seems good. There is a +/-3% margin of error that is mentioned in the instructions though I tried placing the detector on the same spot (as best as I could) for an indoor exercise bike frame and the results were fluctuating a bit and then got me around the 3% margin. For what it is worth and as a quick gauge seems decent.Price was £59.99 at the time.

A Handy Tool for Automotive Enthusiasts
The media could not be loaded. the device arrives in a well-crafted box, exuding quality. The unit itself boasts a premium finish, akin to professional testing equipment. The accompanying manual, though satisfactory, leaves room for enhancement. Nonetheless, comprehending the device's functionality and controls poses no challenge. What stands out is its automatic detection of paint thickness over various metals, facilitating effortless readings.Initial calibration may require fine-tuning, especially for aluminium surfaces, yet the kit provides all necessary tools for adjustment. Once calibrated, the operation is straightforward - simply power on, apply gentle pressure against the surface, and obtain accurate readings promptly.Ideal for pre-purchase car inspections or quick dealership assessments, this device proves invaluable. Its versatility extends beyond automotive applications, albeit limited. While its precision warrants scrutiny, the overall utility and value remain undeniable. Whether safeguarding against purchasing pitfalls or aiding in restoration endeavours, this tool earns its place in any automotive enthusiast's arsenal.

Cool gadget
Bit difficult to understand at first even after reading the manual. After working it out, it was reasonably accurate but not very precise and I found it difficult to get consistent readings. The issue I found was that the meter needed to be flat on the surface otherwise the meter would over read significantly. This issue is slightly mitigated by using the continuous mode and taking the "stable" value.Build quality is good and in the box has everything you need to start except for a carry case.Although marketed for automotives, I found this more useful for other coatings such as pans, powder coated steel etc. I'm sure it will work for most vehicles but again, you will need to find a flat surface to place this on for an accurate reading. You won't be able to distinguish between different types of layers (or at least I can't) but you will be able to determine the distance between the meter and the metal (thickness).
