A great addition to the home!!
I didn't do the carpentry work, but I did supervise! It looked like the cutting and installation went very quickly and we did use the template to do the cutting which made things a lot easier and there were no problems. I had it installed into a solid wooden door leading down to the basement, so that I could keep the litter box down there. The frame of the cat door is white and stands out a little, but I feel like it fits well with the decor and does what it's supposed to.My cat is about a lean 12 pounds and gets in and out with no problem. The soft, magnetic flap makes it very easy for him to get in and out. There is also a removable plastic piece that you can slip in if you want to temporarily suspend access for one reason or another (people coming in and out of the basement to run propane lines, for instance!!)It did take my cat a few days to "get it"; maybe 2 full days (but he's not very smart...). I ended up taping the flap up for about 24 hours and enticing him back and forth with treats through the open hole, and then making a game when I finally un-taped it, throwing treats through the hole on both sides for him to retrieve and getting used to the flap. After maybe 4 days he was using it like a pro and he doesn't hesitate at this point, about 2 months later, but he DIDN'T get it right away so don't lose hope; just be patient.I'm extremely happy!**Update: 4 years later and 2 new cats have learned to use it! This has been an awesome tool and it has held up well from constant (multiple times per day!) use! The new cats are about the same size and aptitude level and 2 days seems about the norm.

Great Cat Door! It's PURRRFECT~
We easily installed this cat door. It took less than 40 minutes and it is absolutely awesome. We have a small house and I'm pregnant now. We have been using a hall closet for cat litter for two years now. I didn't want my baby crawling around in cat boxes obviously and we always had to keep the hall door propped open for the cats. The flap is a little stiff at first and it does take some time to soften up and stop sticking in weird positions. But so far, we have saved a ton of money by not having to have the garage door propped open for our cats to be able to come in and out of the house during the day while our back door was open to the outdoors. It took some coaching at first for the cats to go in and out. They were extremely stubborn. We would just set their paws inside the cat door and give a little nudge to their butt. Finally, after three days of trying, they finally went in and out on their own. It was totally worth the trouble for sure. Now our cat boxes are in the basement, we don't smell them anymore and there is no cat litter up and down my hallway and no worries about the baby crawling around.Be patient with your cats and keep gently coaxing them from both sides. You really need two people to do this. One to shove the cat through and another to shove it back through the other way. Practice a few times a day and in three to five days, they should have the hang of it! It's an awesome cat door, very sturdy, nice looking and we love it!

A good buy for the money
This is a very well made cat door, take note of the small size because large cats will have difficulty getting through it. It installed fairly easily through my back door, (which opens into a fenced cat yard) but the final step, holding the two pieces together while putting the screws in, was difficult until I taped the two halves together. That's the secret! Put the two halves together on either side of the door, then tape them together through the opening before you start the screws. The screws also went in extremely tightly, so much so that I stripped one and will have to replace it. Overall, a good buy for the money, and my cats love it too!

EXCELLENT as long as you don't follow the install directions
Exactly what I was looking for, should have done it years ago. I installed the 7"x11.25" flap and my tall and fat 20lbs Bengal fits through with ease. I def wouldn't go smaller than that though for his size. Bottom of the hole is 3" from the bottom of the door and that ended up being just right to allow them to step through comfortably. The flexible flap is cat friendly. A hard plastic flap was a non-starter. Because... Tails.I just installed it 1 day ago, so I can't speak to durability, but the functionality is great. The frame feels sturdy and it looks nice. The screws required firm pressure to get in but they fit fine. I did screw them in and then take them out once before installing so the final screw-in went easier. The flap is thick with a nice hold to the magnets. Replacement flaps being available to buy is great. I am glad the flap is clear, for me and the kitties. Totally a 5 star product except the install directions. One star off for that b/c it could have been a biggy. I had read enough reviews to know not to follow the instructions to use the sliding door as the template - but if I had I would have ended up with a much too big a hole in my door that I would have had to repair and then rig up the cat door to fit into, and that would have really pissed me off. I used the inside of the bigger frame as a guide and that worked well.Couple notes: The frame is off-white, not white. Install tools: If I didn't have a reciprocating saw and had to use my hand saw for the whole thing the job would have been a pain in the ass - totally doable, but a lot more work.Safety: I knew the moment I had it installed and I stepped back to admire the awesomeness that I was going to have significant daily stress about whether I slid it closed or not when I leave the house. Mine goes from house to garage, could be problematic. I put a door alarm on the frame and the other side on the sliding door so it will show as "open" when the sliding door is pulled out. When I set my alarm to leave it will say "Cat door open" if I've forgotten to close it. Peace of mind.So that's it. Excellent product. Only complaint is the install directions, so just ignore those and you'll love it.
