Excellent tool, worthy of the Makita name.
Purchased this to replace an old Black & Decker unit I've struggled with for years and I'm so glad I did. The base and controls/adjustments are robust and the handles are perfectly positioned. Despite having a 1600W motor, start-up is surprisingly controlled and with little 'kick' to affect initial alignment. I had to adjust the zero degree position a little to get a truly perpendicular cut but, once done, the cut quality is consistently clean and accurate. I also purchased 40 and 60 tooth blades, thinking these would be necessary for clean cutting in Douglas Fir. However, so far, the finish has been perfectly fine with the relatively coarse blade included so these remain unused. I considered the track saw adaptor but, first, made my own track from thin plywood which has proved adequate so am holding-off this further purchase for now. The depth adjustment rail and screw have benefitted from a little lubrication, and carefully lowering the blade during operation to facilitate a plunge cut has proven feasible so far. So all consideration of buying a dedicated plunge/track/rail saw have been has been shelved. Nice one Makita.

Great saw
Love this saw I’m only a D.I.Yer but I got this to replace a cheap saw my wife got me. Swapped the 12 tooth blade for 24 and ripped 30 sleepers in half for a garden project I wanted to get done. It had plenty of power and very accurate compared to the cheaper one. Also the saw bed is a lot more sturdy in fact the whole saw is very well made.

Good value for money
As Expected, it came with a nice storing box and quality is as expected from a Makita product. Price was under average compared to other shops.

Great saw, but too much flex in baseplate
Good all round saw. Lightweight, powerful and compact. Baseplate could use some ribs to increase rigidity.

Good Purchase
I bought this to reduce the height of some new doors and to replace a cheaper saw.The saw feels sturdy and cuts easily through the hardwood door. The supplied blade did not cut across the grain as finely as I wanted. but a smaller toothed blade did better. Changing the blade was easy.I don't think that it a fault that it is not a lightweight tool. The weight is not a problem for me and I can see that some might want a lighter saw. The size of the blade and the use of metal for the components that guide the blade are factors in the weeight and of course the size of the motor. The box is useful to keep the saw and the blades etc together, although the snap shut fasteners are a little fiddley.

Easy to control and use
Having always used a hand saw for DIY projects, I was pleasantly surprised to find this saw very easy to use. Very pleased with the quality for the price. Advice - remember to allow for the width of the cut when doing work that requires a finer finish
