How To Eat Fried Worms

I read this book with my 5 year old son and whilst he enjoyed it I would recommend the book to perhaps 7 -9 year olds. He was able to comprehend the story well and enjoyed it, but there is a lot of conversation text without saying who is speaking, so he got a wee bit muddled about that, but it was okay with adult guidance. The only other problem was that it is American (I think?) and has some American references which he didn't get, but it didn't seem to spoil his overall enjoyment of the story. The story itself is about eating the worms, but also about relationships between boys of the "tweenager" age, which I think it represents very well, but doesn't suggest ways to solve the problems that may occur in that kind of relationship. However, I realise the book is just for fun and that probably wasn't its purpose and the fact that the book generated thoughts that my son wanted to discuss with his parents was a good thing.

My late aunt was a primary school teacher and I still remember test- reading this for her 30 years ago! So, I bought it for my 9 year old son recently. Great for reluctant readers- compelling if yucky-storyline and has pictures too to break up the text.

Oh I so loved this one and I knew my daughter would get sucked in too! About 40ish (don't quote me on this ok!) years ago I unwittingly picked this up from a book shop (well for a young teenager the title would attract you, right!) and I went through that journey with the main character, far enough that I remembered it to pass it on to my girl - FAB kids book!!!

Funny perfect for a 10 year old.

Bought this as a kid, and just got it again in the hope mine will love it as much as I did.Don't be put off by the dreadful film they made of it. This is excellent.

This was purchased as a Christmas Stocking filler and was thoroughly enjoyed by 5 year old Ollie.He has requested further title's in the series.A winner!
