A great investment
What a game changer!! This has been a lifesaver. The solar/battery combination is fantastic. We use it on "intermittent cycle" (3 hours running and 3 hours off) and the battery will last up to 3 days with very little sun on this cycle. The filter basket holds a good amount of debris. It has made a huge difference in the amount getting into our built in pool filters and does a great job of keeping our pool sparkling clean, even with heavy fall leaf-drop. It is super easy to use, and the app for remote start is actually really handy.

This thing is incredible!
I should mention that my pool is a swamp currently. The circulation/filter system is not connected and needs an overhaul. Its been that way for two years and it had leaves and pine needles and twigs coating the surface. It has not been in good condition for two years and it was closed "dirty" and not opened at all last year or this year. I've been super shocking and chlorinating for weeks in the hopes of getting it cleaned up in time to close it when its fresh and clean this year so it can finally be used again, next year. The oxidation has been bringing up leaves and other stuff that fell in previously and sank to the bottom. I skim them off with the skimmer net but the pump is not running and looks like that will have to wait until next year, too. I've been keeping algae at bay so far, but old leaves and pine needles and other debris kept rising from the bottom, the water so cloudy I couldn't even see the bottom enough to pull the stuff out with a leaf rake net. So yesterday afternoon, I unpacked this machine. It hasn't even been 24 hours. I wish I could give it ten stars. Instructions are very good with clear explanations, photos and diagrams. Very easy to understand, and very easy to operate. Instructions said it would work right out of the box. That was true. The battery was charged and all I had to do was turn the switch on and put it in the pool. There is a remote that you can use to direct it around and bring it back to the side of the pool to clean out the debris basket. The remote takes AAA batteries. Just turn on the switch, and put it in the pool. It paused a moment and then the lights came on flashing green and my new "Buddy" took off to take its first circle around the pool, sucking up huge maple leaves, white pine needles, cedar pinecones, twigs and pollen and grass seeds that have been blowing in as the grasses in back go to seed. And the screen filtering in the debris container is so fine its also helping to get the cloudiness out by filtering the finest debris like the dead algae. I have three items floating in the pool, two chlorine floaters and a thermometer. All three have solar lights that come on after dark. I was concerned that they might somehow get stuck and block the impeller on the skimmer machine, but that was not a problem at all. In fact, as night came on, my new "buddy" actually seemed to be attracted to them. The instructions say that when the battery starts to get low, it will move around to get the best exposure to the sun's light to keep the battery charged up. There is also a "sleep mode" that stops the impeller that pulls in the debris, but turns the propellers on intermittently to move around to capture sunlight to charge the battery. I got the model that also has the alternative electric charger. I put it in the pool Monday afternoon around 4 p.m. There were clouds coming in and it started to rain so there was not much sun and that kept up all night and most of the next day and night, but Wednesday had bright sunshine all day. It kept working except for once when it signaled the impeller was clogged. I cleaned it out and it went back to work. I don't know if its really possible but it seemed to me that after dark, this skimmer went to the floating solar lights that came on after dark, and maybe drew some charge from the light they gave off. I do know that on Wednesday morning all three floaters were herded into one corner and the skimmer was still working. When I watched at night, the skimmer actually circled around and turned to "face" the largest of the floaters that changes color and goes through the whole light spectrum. It was easy to imagine that the skimmer was drawing energy from those lights, too. Again, I do not know if that is even feasible. Thursday sometime in the afternoon, it stopped and the lights went dark which means its very low on battery. I hooked it up to the electric charger (also simple and very easy) and it charged up in about an hour. This is Friday morning and its been working all night, and is out there still running around the pool and its supposed to be sunny today so it will probably get charged up to the max on its own, today. The surface of the pool is clear of all debris. I am beyond pleased so far. Certainly this was worth the money for me.

Works GREAT - was getting stuck on Polaris hose but i fixed that!
update- it's been nearly a year, I'm very happy with the robot. It's still performing great! I will check back / update in a week or so and most likely update this to a five star review from four stars, assuming that my adjustments to the Polaris hose have fixed the beta robot frequently getting stuck on the hose. (I’ve had it running seven days now). First off I was very surprised and happy with how well this unit cleans any debris from the surface of my pool, it actually cleans much better than I was doing myself going around with a net about once a day or every other day. A big part of that is because there is a very fine mesh in the basket of this beta, so it grabs much smaller items and, tiny little things that would pass through my net. And of course it does a better job cause it’s constantly running. I very much recommend getting the unit that allows you to plug it into the wall to charge occasionally, although I only have had to charge it once, and that’s when it first came in and I just did that as you’re always supposed to fully charge any lithium ion Battery/devices before first use. It has been a week now and the unit has constantly showed “good battery level” so the solar seems to be working great. (The only indication of battery level is the two blinking green lights on the front of the unit). I have cameras around my pool so it does look like the unit runs 24/7 , although I’m assuming at times it pauses/stops. I just haven’t happened to see that , as anytime I see it , It’s running. The only reason I’ve taken off one star is because the unit would very frequently get stuck on my Polaris hose to the point where you would have to dip down the hose or push the beta back for it to get unstuck, I even tried leaving it stuck for 12 to 24 hours and it would not get unstuck, however, I think I’ve now fixed that. The other reason for taking off a star, I’m assuming this unit has an accelerometer built into it, or even if it doesn’t - it really should have much better detection of getting stuck on something like the Polaris hose so that it would back out or never collide with it in the first place, however this is not the case as it will frequently get stuck on the hose. But the good news is, I was able to resolve this (at least as of the past three days), simply by moving around the floaters on the Polaris hose, in my case I was able to just slide them around so that as you can see in the photo, floaters are as close together as possible, right by the hose junctions which keeps a majority of the hose down below the water level, and the parts where the two floaters are very close together are high enough up that the beta now does not get stuck up on them . You can see in the photos I’ve attached to this review, these photos are after I’ve adjusted the hose floaters and in these photos, the betta absolutely would have gotten stuck on the hose before my hose adjustments, however, as you can see it is not getting stuck now. Also, this may be very important, I changed the timers around so that my Polaris vacuum / hose only runs at night assuming the betta might be sleeping at that point, I’ve also changed the Polaris/ hose to only run a few hours a day as there’s much less trash on the bottom anyway, as opposed to before I had it running about eight hours a day. If the Polaris is running during the day and the betta is also running at the same time, there’s a much higher chance the hose will ensnare the betta. However, I will update in a few days if this has not resolved the issue, and the betta is still constantly getting stuck, however, that does not seem to be the case. It seems like all is good now vacuum hose pool, vacuum hose weights that you can buy on Amazon, however, that does seem to be pretty useless, as they’re not heavy enough nor do they properly fit the hose but as you can see in my photo, I did stick four of the 8x weights wedged on the actual floaters - so they may be helping keep the hose below the water however, I’m more inclined to believe that *just* sliding the floaters closer together is all that is needed. It would be nice if there were a slightly more expensive beta version that allowed you to see how much battery charge is in the unit and possibly updated firmware as well as adjust the sensitivity or collision detection. (however that would have to be via an app most likely, and it would most likely have to be more expensive than the $350 I paid for my betta se). Bottom line, if my adjustments to the Polaris hose have stopped the beta from getting stuck on it then I’m super happy with this beta and will recommend it to others, however, if however, it should be noted that initially the unit would constantly get stuck on the hose as in every four hours or so. (Will update this review and my rating in the next week or so.) (Also it’s very cool / neat to see the little unit driving around the pool and getting close to the wall and then reversing and rotating ECT)

I received my robot yesterday and so I read the instructions and placed the robot in the pool It worked perfectly But The plug pack that was provided is a us plug and the connection to the robot is a very specific 3 point connection so I can’t just buy a new Australian plug pack I have to buy a converter which is not ideal If you know you are dispatching the unit to Australia surely it would be smart to provide the buyer with the correct plug type Great product but be aware that if you are buying for Australia you will receive the wrong plug type

Excellent skimmer, simple and basic, does exactly what it is supposed to do, easy to clean, easy remote if needed, can run 24/7 if desired. The best on the market today!

First off I have to say I am not affiliated with Betta and that I paid for my device. I mention this because the Betta is brilliant, in fact it’s better than brilliant, it’s a total game changer. My pool used to have a ton of pollen, dead insects, algae and dust on the surface, this would collect in corners like a soup and line the walls. Enter the Betta! I love that there is no configuration; remove a couple of pieces of tape, slide the power switch on and put the device in the pool. My second home is in West Africa, which is virtually always sunny so I didn’t have to charge it. Straight away it’s collecting all tiny debris on the surface, this little guy works 24/7 cleaning, cleaning, cleaning. After a day I took it out to clean the ton of pollen and other stuff it had picked up. A week in and my pool has never been cleaner, not even when it was built. I also put the chlorine tablet in the basket which is a touch of genius. I used to spend a load of time skimming the pool with the net, problem is dust, sand and other small debris pass right through. Not so with the Betta, every tiny speck is gone, the water is now crystal clear. When I swim I look across the surface and see perfect glassy looking water and nothing else. The Betta never stops; when I’m at work it’s cleaning, when I’m asleep it’s cleaning, when I’m out having a pizza, it’s cleaning… you get the picture. The remote control is also a great touch. I have a hose at one corner of the pool so when it’s time to pull out the Betta and wash-out the basket a couple of presses on the remote sends it the right way. I had one concern; would the Betta get stuck on the pool entrance, which is a dead-end? I also have a couple of built-in tables in the water which could present a challenge. Not a bit of it, it can do a perfect 90 or 180 degree turn if it needs to, therefore it never gets stuck. After six weeks there were two consecutive cloudy days here, for the first time ever, at around midnight on the second day the Betta stopped. The next day the lights were flashing red, then green intermittently, I left it to its devices so it stopped again during the night, however after that it’s been running 24/7 once more. The maintenance of my 11x5 metre in ground pool has now been reduced to around 90 minutes each week. The Betta catches virtually everything, however a very small amount of dust and other particles inevitably get past it. I vacuum the bottom once a week as well as cleaning out the Betta every 3 days. So there I am thinking the Betta is perfect, when one of the lights stops working. Betta support is only available within the US and Canada so I won’t be able to get this repaired. It’s not often that something comes along to give one so much time back as well as making life better, however this is the case here, in fact I couldn’t think of any way to improve it. Five stars, five hundred stars if that were possible.

This is a well-made unit. I have left the unit on factory settings which means that it skims the pool in a random manner. I cannot imagine that I would ever use the remote control unit. It is important to put the unit and take it out in the horizontal position, as it will spill debris which it has collected. My pool is surrounded by trees and in the spring blossom floats down to the surface of the pool. This will be a real test for it but at the moment I'm very pleased with it and would highly recommend it. I have not had to charge it with a built-in charger yet as there has been so much sun.
