Surprisingly Smart, But a Solid Performer Even Without the Bells and Whistles
As a card-carrying member of the Home Assistant club, I'll admit I scratched my head a bit when considering a "smart" microwave. What could it possibly do that my trusty old dumb one couldn't? Why would I need to start cooking from my phone when I have to walk the food there anyways? Well, after living with the SAMSUNG 1.1 Cu Ft Smart SLIM Over the Range Microwave (model ME11A7710DS/AA), I've found some useful integrations, and even if you're not a smart home tinkerer, it's a fantastic microwave on its own. First off, let's talk about the essentials: it's a microwave, and it excels at being one. The 1100 watts of power zaps food quickly and evenly, and the Sensor Cook feature is surprisingly accurate – no more lukewarm spots or rubbery edges. The "slim" design is a real space-saver, perfect for kitchens where every inch counts, and the fingerprint-resistant stainless steel actually works, keeping it looking sleek. Now, for the smart stuff. While the "food is done" trigger hasn't revolutionized my life yet, the integration with Home Assistant has opened up some cool possibilities I hadn't considered. I've set up the under-microwave LED light bar to turn on via a motion sensor, which is incredibly convenient for late-night snack runs. And the 550 CFM hood vent automatically kicking on when the smoke alarm goes off? Pure genius. It's the kind of subtle automation that makes you wonder how you lived without it. Voice control is there if you want it, though honestly, I mostly stick to the buttons or my automations. Pros: * Excellent Core Functionality: Heats food quickly and evenly, with reliable sensor cooking. * Slim Design: A fantastic space-saver for smaller kitchens or those wanting a less bulky look. * Powerful Vent Hood: The 550 CFM fan is robust and effective at clearing smoke and odors. * Effective Fingerprint-Resistant Finish: Actually keeps the appliance looking clean. * Surprisingly Useful Smart Features (for Home Assistant users): Automation possibilities for the light and fan are a real win. The LED light bar is bright and well-distributed. Cons: * Kind of wish the light was warmer for night time * Smart Features for Some: If you're not into smart home tech, some of its advanced capabilities might be overkill, but it still functions perfectly as a traditional microwave. Overall, whether you're a smart home enthusiast looking to expand your automations or just need a reliable, good-looking microwave with a powerful vent, this Samsung model delivers. It’s a solid performer that offers some genuinely useful smart integrations for those willing to dive in. Highly recommended!

Be Careful when ordering
This unit had obviously been returned by someone else: the door was damaged in 4 places and the the turntable and roller ring were missing. Don't think I'll be buying appliances from Amazon again and certainly not from this dealer. The item itself works fine - bright lights for the stove top and very good exhaust fan function, which are two reasons I selected the Samsung. Once I replace the door, it will look great. The only problem I've encountered is reading the control panel - not backlit and hard to read...

A capable microwave
Good quality build and operation, wifi controls limited, but on the whole very satisfied. Has a better fan for over the range built in and bright lighting.

Excellent Fan. Highest CFM I've Found. Comparable to a Stand Alone Fan.
Has an excellent high powered fan, which was the most important feature to me. Otherwise not great. The number pad isn't backlit and even the younger members of my family with excellent eyesight can't see it. The sensor function cooks leftovers boiling hot. It has voice control but only for basics, cooking time and percentage, none of the other settings or functions. Same with the app. Does cook time and percent only.

Samsung over the oven microwave model ME11A7710DS
Unit totally quit functioning at 5 weeks. Touch pad, light, everything. Seems this is not uncommon. Customer service is easy to contact, and they set up a repair service to come out to attempt a repair within 5 days. The service contractor called the day before they were to arrive to inform me that the replacement part (complete door assembly) was on back order and wouldn't be available for several weeks. Service contractor recommended calling Samsung back and start the process to replace the unit. This is the point where Samsung has refused to expedite any corrective action. I've have spoken to at least 7 different Samsung representatives, up to "management" and none have the authority to expedite the resolution to a defective product outside some written protocol. Expediting the replacement of the unit would be more cost effective for Samsung and would reduce the inconvenience of the customer. Nonetheless, the outcome is to wait another month on backorder parts at the the customs inconvenience.
