1939: The Last Season of Peace (Bloomsbury Reader)

1939 Debs season
I found this book difficult to get into at first but it proved an absolutely fascinating history of the fantasy world of the "Season" and the sheer luxury of the titled class behaving as if a war was not around the corner. It dealt with all ages of the coming out of debutants, from the 1700's to the 20th century and the end of an era.

Gill's review
Writing beautiful and full of eye-witness reports. Read in 2013 there is already a second distance from the period, making it even more remote.I would just like to add a problem with this Kindle book particularly, but with Kindle generally - full of errata we no longer have in newspapers and printed books. Not really acceptable in this age.

Frivolous but interesting
An interesting companion to Fiona McCarthy's book about the very last season in 1958.

Good Book
Fantastic but quite sad about the first world war in places, which I always feel sad about but I enjoyed this well written book.
