The New First Dictionary of Cultural Literacy: What Your Child Needs to Know

Great for learning a little bit about a lot of things
This is an abbreviated book for the younger reader, but I like the original publication better. There seems to be a lot of opinionated writing in this one, while the original one has FACTS. This is a good book to use to write beginning essays. If you like wandering around the pages to discover new things, this is your book. Google doesn't wander---you have to KNOW what you are looking for.

Really fun book to flip through.
Great coffee table book. Enjoyed by kids and adults. Fun conversation starter. Useful knowledge on everything. You could probably make up some sort of fun family trivia game to play with this thing. And if, for some weird reason, you want to keep your husband in the bathroom even longer than usual, put this in there.

A book every kid over 12 should have
My parent's gave me a copy of this book when I was 12 and at the time I just thought it was a lame book... then I actually started reading it. It helped me out so much in high school and college these bits of knowledge in every catagory you could think of. History, art, lit, math, science, even religion and world views. It's kinda like a cliff notes of all the important things you should know to be a well rounded adult.Plus it readies your mind to be able to win any type of trivia game your friends want to throw at you. My friends all think I know EVERYTHING and really its just cause I read this book when I was younger (and still occasionally again to this day). I bought this book as a gift for my 12 year old niece. I hope she likes it. I also wished I had notice this version is a paperback as a hardback one would've lasted better.

Excellent for your kids in elementary school.
I bough this to use with my child who is in grade school. It has a little bit about everything in the book and is broken down into different topics. It made our look-up of Athena a cinch. I would say a must have for elementary education.

Awesome condition but need to return it
This dictionary is awesome and in great shape; however we now realize that this is not the exact book our child's teacher required. How can I return it. It has not been used
