Nice chunk charcoal, a bit dusty
This is a good sized chunk charcoal for terrariums, orchids, or indoor potting soil. There is a fair bit of dust in the bag, so I recommend opening it outdoors when you want to use it. Otherwise, the quality seems very good. I have used it in one terrarium as well as a number of indoor plants, and so far it's working just great!

Charcoal is good for odors
I ordered this to use for odors in my home particularly my fireplaces. I dumped this in a little mesh bag that I had an extra of which was meant for washing undergarments. I put it right in my fireplace. Normally, I buy those little charcoal bags, and they are miracle workers. I have been in this place for 5 years, and the first couple years it was the smelliest place I've ever lived in my life and nothing I did make it better. I was mortified and humiliated every single day of my life because my clothes and everything just stunk like the worst house smell you could ever smell. I finally realized it was coming out of the fireplaces as I live in the rainy Pacific northwest, and odors come in through the fireplaces even if they are sealed which mine are faulty and I don't use them. Once I ordered enough of the charcoal bags for the square footage the smell was instantly gone within 2 days. I could not believe that happened, because I felt it was impossible and the only way to escape it would be to move out which wasn't an option. I also noticed they only last for 2 years, and mine stopped working about 24 to 26 months later which is when I started to smell the stinky house again and I recently just replaced them all. Because I saw this online, I figured it wouldn't hurt and I already knew I could put it in one of my mesh bags since it's just going in the fireplace. I would use it in plants, but this is what I'm doing now. Since my house smell is already taken care of since I upgraded everything, I can't really tell you if it works with this particular bag, but because of what I have done with the other bags, I know charcoal works. They are just prettier when you buy the woven ones, and they are obviously not messy. No complaints. My landlord's already know when I move out it's going to get funky in here again and they need to order the bags lol

I like it better than perlite for drainage
I am using this for drainage issues with my soil for my plants. I much prefer this to perlite. I hate all the little white dots in my soil. This blends right in to the soil. It's great if you go cheap on bagged soil, but you know you need extra help in making it suitable. No plants like compacted roots. Some really detest wet feet. This solves many problems.

Poor quality
Tried using this new product on my orchids and they did not adjust well to the properties of this mix. It appears the bark dries faste leaving the plant's roots with very little water to absorb. Did not like this product
