Better than Expected!!
I guess because it's brand new - it's supper sharp and it actually did cut a 2.5" branch like butter!!So far very pleased...... I sadly snaped the metal on my old pair - handle to ratchet part... Hubby was amazed - no fault of the tool... I get a little carried away cutting branches.... maybe a bit more than the tools can handle - once too many times... Ooops!! lolI'm not a supper strong person and the ratchet helps cut brances effertlessly!!I Love the ratcheting action as it I have to use little strength except if you go for: hmmm... lets see if I can cut this one...... LMAO - I did get my old pair stuck hanging from trees - no fun trying to get it to unlock the grip!! Yeah, I'll never learn... My old pair didn't have a name on them sadly - I do take care of my tools - by not leaving them outside... oil /sharpen - although I do tend to be rough on use... still lasted at least 15 years... I am hoping these also last as long... time will tell! :-)They hold the position length with no issues - These feel as sturdy as my old pair... These seem to be good quality. I'd recommend these

Cuts Like Butter? Depends
There are always people writing Amazon reviews that casually claim a lopper "cuts like butter" without giving specifics. With the Gatrol, softwoods do cut like butter even without extending the handles. Likewise fast growing oak or maple will probably cut fairly easy. Slow growing wood of any type is more dense and will be more difficult. For example, I have a slow growing boxwood bush that needs to be cut back. A mere glance might suggest it is easy, but oh my! It is the densest wood I have seen. I have a full size geared lopper that utterly failed in this task. Gatrol did cut off a 1" stem at ground level, but definitely not like butter and only with the handles fully extended. It took some muscle, but it was better than getting out my chain saw and risk getting the chain in the dirt. As other reviewers have suggested, fully extending the handles does make it very unwieldy.Check the Janka wood hardness test on Wikipedia. Boxwood is over twice as hard as white oak! Other common trees with hard wood that may be trouble are ironwood, live oak, mesquite, and osage orange.

These loppers suck
These loppers have a ratcheting system to make it easier to lop off thick branches but the ratchet is useless. It remains closed and if you have to adjust for smaller branches, you have to continuously open and close them to get the space between the blade smaller. It's extremely annoying and unhelpful when trimming the tree. I would never buy a design like this again. Returned for refund.

Awesome
I brought these to cut some tree branches hanging over my garden from my neighbours and to cut through some really thick stinging nettles and they are brilliant so pleased with them. If I had one critique it would have to be that I wish the handles were extendable there is only so far I can reach on my step ladders other than that I love them
