Sorry, not my Brand.
I love Brand X. I came on board when "Product" was released back in '79 and I was hooked. I owned the complete Brand X on vinyl. I now own the complete Brand X on Cd. I love All that is and was '70s fusion; I couldn't wait for the first release of the "Official Bootleg Series." I am a devout music collector and you can't be into music without having a good system. I have a Denon Amp, Klipsch Speakers and a Sony cd player. Some Bootlegs can really surprise you and you have to factor in the types of recording equipment used in the era of the recording. I accept that. I own other Gonzo Multimedia recordings that aren't bad.All that being said, I've now loaded this into my system 3 times and it is a very muddled recording. At first full listen, I thought maybe I was being too critical. I loaded it in the next night and gave it a full listen and realized the marred, flat sound quality detracts from the bands live performance. I gave it one more shot tonight, defending that this is the first new Brand X release in years. I removed it from my player after the first cut, "Disco Suicide." I realized what I'd been waiting for in past listens was the typical adjustments made at the soundboard as a band warms up while playing. I could argue that this does occur to some degree as you progress through the cd; but it's just not substantial enough to matter.Great material. Nice to hear the band song introductions and banter, but the overall sound quality is muddy and poor. I was excited over the prospect of the next 2 slated releases in this bootleg series; but now I've just removed them from my Amazon Wish list. Too bad, this such an underrated band.As a long time fan, my advice is buy the live "Timeline" or "Livestock" instead. For a great bargain and band sampling try the compilation "Nuclear Burn" released on Virgin in 2014.

Bootleg Quality but Great Performance
As with my review of the Brand X Chicago sister release in this same series, the sound is not great. It is a stereo recording taken probably from a soundboard tape and is primitive, harsh and it has no sparkle. It is essentially a dull sound but as you would expect from these incredible musicians, the performance is Very good. I found this concert more enjoyable than the Chicago CD but it's a shame about the mediocre sound. This series of Gonzo releases are only for the hardcore Brand X collector.

its always a good day when anything is released from the ultimate jazz fusion band that was brand x . being a collector of live recordings unofficial recordings from brand x are few and far between this particular recording few are aware of . the liner notes give us no clues as to how this was recorded sounds like an exceptional sound board the date is 28/11/1977 the line up is morris pert - robin lumley - john goodsall -percy jones - kenwood dennard . the performance is electrifying being one of the last dates of the tour e.s.p is evident throughout highly entertaining stuff then . any brand x or general lovers of jazz fusion at its highest level will not go wrong in purchasing this release from gonzo music, grab it while you can.
